I descend from a George & Elizabeth Campbell of Amherst County, VA. I have
been trying for some time to locate some sort of Revolutionary War record
for this George. I have the death certificate for George & Elizabeth
Campbell's son, John.
Please contact me if you are interested.
Paul (Jack Paul Bess, Jr.)
Thanks for your reply. He is not the one that I am searching for. The John
Campbell who's parents I am looking for was married to Mary Gish, and they had
the following children: George Washington Campbell, William C., Eliza J.,
Nancy, John F., Walter M., Mary Ann Elizabeth, Lewis, Sarah, Abraham, James M.,
Charles Austin, Francis M., Elizabeth, and Garrison.
After John's death, his wife, Mary moved from Virginia to Indiana with her
children and lived close to her son George Washington Campbell, who married
Ellen/Eleanor Smith.
Wish I could have helped.

PHENYLPROPANOLAMINE has not been recalled. The FDA is following up on a Yale study linking its use as a diet suppressant with hemorrhagic stroke. "Our results suggest that a woman who uses PPA in an appetite suppressant is 16 times more likely to suffer a hemorrhagic stroke than a woman who does not use PPA." The study found no associated increase in risk for men. Read the article at

Would like to communicate with anyone in this James Alexander Campbell line. His father was William and he had a sister Mary who married a McAlister. He can be found on the 1790 census of Abbeville Co. Pendleton Dist., SC with 1 male over 16, 2 under 16 and 2 females.
In 1784 he bought 104 acres on "Little Rock Creek" in Abbe. Co, SC. According to a McAlister descendant who did this research, He was probably living in N.C at the time he bought this land. I believe this was known as the "Nations" area. Campbells, Edmistons, McAlisters, Blacks and Lesleys all lived in this area.
About 1800 he married Elizabeth Wilson Edmiston,(born March 12, 1806 in SC) widow of John Edmiston who had three children, John, Andrew, James and Lucy. Lucy was born in 1789 after the death of her father. James and Elizabeth had three children, John, James and Lydia Wilson.
In 1807, Elizabeth made an early will in which she listed John Edmiston, James, John and Lydda Campbell. She gave Lucy Edmiston one calico habit . What happened to Andrew and James Edmiston? Did they already have their inheritance or were they deceased?
I never found a will for James Alexander. What happened to the people living in his household in 1790? Were they his wife and children?
I am a descendant of Lydia Wilson Campbell who married James W. McAlister on March 12, 1806 in Abbeville Co, SC. He died in 1844. Most of this family moved to Coosa Co., AL. a few years after his death. Have been told that some of the Campbells also went to AL.
If you know anything about this line, please either reply to Rootsweb or to my email abkenney(a)dtnspeed.net. I have most of the McAlister line down to the present time but nothing else..

No, I am sorry, Bud,
My earliest Campbell would have been his brother, but I don't know any of
John J Campbell's siblings, nor his parents. He was born 1845/9 depending
on the census you read. This was in the Darlington area. Wish I could help
more.

Marvin, this is my CAMPBELL family also. Robert Campbell Sr. was married
twice. He first married Leticia Crocket and they had six children (I
believe) before she died in Prince Edward Co VA. This is all off the top of
my head so I may have some dates wrong. Alexander, the first son by
Robert,Sr and Leticia was my ancestor.
Have you heard of the "Little Book" as we call it on this Campbell family
written in 1894 by
Rev. Charles Campbell after gathering info from various members scattered
far & wide? He was of the 2nd set of children by Mary Young. I have a lot
on this family but still working on it. The "Little Book" is no way
complete but a good starting place on this Campbell family.
I am excited to find another Campbell researcher.
I don't know until I look at my program if I got all of the Early Campbell's
by the second marriage in my data base yet.
There was nothing in the book about Leticia, sister to my ancestor John,
and
his brothers & sister, namely, Robert, James, John Eaton, Hamilton Crockett
Campbell as well as their sisters, Ann (Campbell) Graves & Leticia Campbell.
We have just recently found that Leticia Campbell, dau of Alexander, married
Thomas English in East TN and stopped off in Giles County TN for a few years
and one child was born here, namely, Campbell English.
You can imagine how excited I was when I found this as my father was named
James Campbell English. I have a copy of a letter written by a Campbell
English descendant telling of his birth in Giles County 1815. They moved on
to Missouri Texas & LA. This descendant of Campbell English named the
children of these marriages (2)) of his ancestor, Thomas English. This
Campbell English with father Thomas English that married Leticia Campbell is
not of our English family
unless it was from Ireland. We have researched and written a book on our
English family 1986.
I will be happy to send you what you might need on this family, only, if
this is your family. I don't usually send this type of thing to paid
Genealogists that are doing the work for someone else for pay. I am really
too busy for that but I love to help families with their personal research.
I have a copy of the "Little Book" as we call it. There are some mistakes
in it but is a great guide, especially since this info was collected before
1894. The original has been copied so much that it has old smears in back
of book. It was just stapled together and was never published.
Rev. Campbell sold it for 25 cents of 50 cents to family who wanted it and
sent in info.
I can send you a transcription of it that is easier to read. Someone did
this years ago before computers and send it to me. I will be more than happy
to send both of these. I have the first set of children by Robert,Sr in
pretty good shape but as I said I don't know how much I have on the second
ones, at least, the younger generations.
Just let me know your wishes as I do not know what you already have. I have
lots of notes that I was unable to get them all written up because of the
time factor.
Thanks for writing as so great to know of another Campbell researcher in our
lineage.

Dec 1841 in Carter's Valley, Hawkins Co., Tennessee married Mary Young 12
Feb 1765 in Rockbridge Co., Virginia, Married 15 Oct 1785 in Abingdon,
Washington Co., Virginia. Some of these families married into the Carmack
family and it appears some went to TN and some were in Campbell co, KY. I
believe my Catherine Campbell b. 1800 is somehow related to the Robert
Campbell Sr. family (maybe her uncle). Some of the Carmack/Campbell family
went from TN to Douglas co, IL.

Dear Lilly and A. T.,
First, as far as I've found, this isn't my branch of Campbell's,
although my father is a 36/37 yDNA match for at least one Campbell with ties to
Nelson and Amherst Counties. But, this is what I did find on Catlett Campbell,
which you probably already have:
1850 Amherst County, Virginia
Catlett Campbell, 58, farmer, value of real estate $800
Nancy , 58
Mary A. , 32
Jane , 30
Betsy , 28
Sarah , 20
Lucy , 18
Emily , 15
Frances Padgett, 15
Barhaba , 14
Althena , 10
1860 Amherst County, Virginia census
Callett Campbell, 68, value of real estate $2000, value of personal estate
$500
Nancy , 67
Jane , 40
Elizabeth , 38
Sarah , 25
Lucy , 23
Emily , 20
Living Next Door Is:
Mary A. Padgett, 42
Barsheba , 22
Althena , 19
Maybe this will help someone.
My earliest proven relative is Abraham Campbell and Winnie Sevier of
Russell County, VA. By circumstantial evidence, we believe his parents to have
been Henry Campbell and Jane Greenwood. Then, by further circumstantial
evidence, that Henry is the son of Abraham Campbell and Dorcas of Pittsylvania
County, VA.
I'm always looking and will pass on what I find.
Mary Campbell Ballard
Hello Clan,
Once again does any one have McIver (Mac Iver/ M'Iver...) of Pennymore
information before they assumed the Campbell name? I have a limited direct
chart now c 1400-1666 by Capt Herbert Campbell, (thank you Ruby Campbell PH
D) however it is incomplete and needs some females on it...should you have
any information please get in touch. I have found suitable spouses after c
1642, to myself.
It is a lot to expect that there are any know records pre 1600s, but worth a
try as I know Invearay Castle papers are full of their names.
Can anyone get a hold of a Pennymore article in the OBAN TIMES 29 Sept 1923?
Thank you for any tips,
David

I seem to remember there was quite a bit of conversation a short time ago
about a Catlett Campbell. I found this rather intriguing because I do have
Catlett's, but they are my maternal line, not the paternal line which is where
the Campbell's are located for me.
I haven't been able to locate the referenced list letters so I don't know
what you have and don't have, but I did run across this listing in the Library
of Virginia Death Records Index:
Record # 254, Campbell, Cattett, date of death-May 20, 1866. Source of
Information-Amherst County, 1866, page 1.
