Hello List,
Where in Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire, Scotland would someone be buried?
My 2x Great Grandfathers brother and father and sisters all died in Dumbarton, between 1856- 1922.
First death in Dumbarton was Margaret Campbell born about 1854? and died June 25, 1856 at 2, College Street, Dumbarton. Her age might be wrong?. Then their son Gilbert Campbell born March 1, 1839 in Kirkcolm, Wigtown, Scotland and who died July 30, 1856 at 2, College Street, Dumbarton. Gilbert had a twin brother named William.
Hugh Campbell born 1847 in Stanraer, Wigtown, Scotland and died June 4, 1922 at 14, Burnside Street, Dumbarton.
Hugh was the son of Alexander Campbell and Agnes Kelly.
Alexander Campbell born between 1796 and 1798 in Kirkcolm, Wigtown, Scotland. Died on May 5, 1864 at 129, High Street, Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire, Scotland.
Alexander's wife Agnes Campbell maiden surname Kelly I have not got a date or year for but think she died between 1864 and 1868 in Dumbarton? She was also born in Kirkcolm, Wigtown Scotland between 1801 -1803.
Jane/Jean Campbell born 1821 in Kirkcolm, Wigtown, Scotland. and died March 2, 1868 at 97, High Street, Dumbarton. She was the daughter of Alexander Campbell and Agnes Kelly.
Jessie/Janet Robertson maiden name Campbell born between 1827-1831 in Kirkcolm, Wigtown, Scotland. She died March 8, 1868 at 97, High Street, Dumbarton.
Jessie/Janet Campbell was the daughter of Alexander Campbell and Agnes Kelly she was married to William Robertson.
Agnes Campbell born between 1828 and 1835 in Kilmarnock Ayrs, Scotland. and died January 22, 1873 in Dumbarton.
Would they have all been buried and maybe Hugh Campbell cremated in the same area please?
Thank you in advance for any information I might receive.
Kind Regards
Pamela J Groves
Hello List,
I would like to know if anyone on the list or someone who has seen any information about a Jeanie Campbell.
My Mum told me years ago that she had a relative named Jeanie Campbell who used to be a singer on the radio.
My mum died 20 years ago now. But this was when she was a young girl. My mother was Doris Margaret Campbell born April 1921 in Walker, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland, England. Her father was Andrew Wilson Campbell and her mother was Sarah Ann Robbie.
Andrew Wilson Campbell my Grandfather was the Grandson of Andrew Campbell and Elizabeth Fergus. My 2x Great Grandfather Andrew Campbell was the brother of Hugh Campbell. Hugh Campbell and Elizabeth Cunningham whose daughter Jeanie Campbell was born in Dumbarton, Scotland
on April 27, 1875. Could this be the famous Radio Singer?
If anyone has heard about her or maybe knew of her I would like to find out more about her please?
Thank you in advance for any information I might receive.
Kind Regards
Pamela J Groves

Hello from Australia,
I've been subscribed to this list for quite a while and would now like to ask others for a little
help.
I've located my Campbell family in the 1881 census but am wondering if there is an 1871 census and
if SKS would look them up for me?
The father was John Campbell, mother Adelaide McIntyre. My great grandfather is the 12 year old John
in the census below. The elder John was "abroad" at the time of the census, not sure what they mean
with that as he was a bootmaker so far as I know. Also very curious is the fact Adelaide has
"British subject" under her birthplace in the census. If there is an 1861 census a look for Adelaide
McIntyre may be helpful.
My grandmother told my cousin that there were 15 generations of John Campbells, fathers and sons,
my cousin being the 15th. I have a photo that has 4 John Campbells in it, unfortunately the person
who took it didn't include one head but there is a very old invalid, one in about his 50s the one I
believe is my grandfather minus head and a toddler I think is my uncle (aforementioned cousin's
dad). Nobody in the family can say for certain who they are.
On my ggf death cert (1943) it states he was in Australia for 58 years, meaning he came here about
1885 aged about 16. The informant was his son. I haven't been able to find his arrival as yet. I
believe his father came here too but have not been able to hazard a guess as to which of the many
John Campbells in the death index could be him. The only clue is that he was supposedly 96 when he
died. I'm planning on getting a transcription of his marriage so then I may have a clue as to his
birthdate, I'm just waiting to hear back from my transcription agent if the IGI entry below is
enough to locate the record.

Hi,
You could try contacting the funeral home that handled the arrangements for
their father; they often have family info on file. Someone should still
have one of those little funeral handouts stuck away somewhere. Otherwise
youll have to check with the funeral homes in the area and ask if they
handled the arrangements. Youll need the name of the deceased and the
wife, if she was alive and contracted them. Narrowing the date window would
be of help to anyone trying to help you.
You could also check for Obits in the papers both in Mendon, MA and
Birmingham, Jefferson Co., AL. Obits quite often list children and where
they are from.
Did the family live in Birmingham, AL or Mendon, MA? Sometimes there are
old phone books and other newspaper articles on individuals that give
information on other family members.
Have you tried using your web browser and typing the names of the people you
re searching for into the search box?
Good luck,
Anna B. Good

Sorry Julie,
I meant 1830 of course. If you can find a source where the ships and their
passengers are listed you possibly may find something . In genealogy there are
no guarantees.
I truly wish you luck, David Campbell
Diarmid.
I was so glad to hear from you. I'm sorry I have taken so long to get back to
you.
Yes, I was told my Big Duncan was a "cousin" of the Duke of Argyll, and
because he was on the "wrong side" he had to flee to Rosshire. He settled near
Loch Maree. Every Fall he drove his cattle down to InvernesShire. Then we have
gap in history until John was born about 1795.
Thank you for the info on the two Campbells who were on the "losing" side in
the war. I hope I can find out something about them.
My computer is very "undependable" and I don't get far with it. Also, about 6
years ago I started having "little strokes". They are messing up my recent
memory so I have a hard time getting things right. But eventually I'll get it!!
Hope I hear from you again.

Dear Mr. Thompson:
You seem to be very well informed on the Campbell's of Morris Tioga Pa.
Hopefully you can point me in the correct direction.
I am looking for George w. Campbell And his wife Mary Ann Vanduzen.
George is my main character He was born on December 29, 1820 in Pennsylvania.
I know that his family lived in Steuben County New York In 1850 then in Tioga
in 1860. He was a coal miner (which mine I do not know) he also had the
following children:
Thomas, Henry, George, Edward, Silas James, Samuel and Sarah. All children
were born in Pennsylvania except George he was born in steuben. George and Mary
were married Jan 16, 1841. I am pretty sure that George's father was born in
New York and his mother was born in Vermont. George died in 1892 and is buried
in Evergreen Cemetery in tioga Pa.
my question is this How do I go about finding information on his parents I
think his father may have been Silas P. Campbell born between 1790 and 1800 he
is in the 1830 census with a child George's age and he was in the war of 1812.
He fits all the criteria of what I have heard about George's father. though I
cannot seem to find a listing of Silas's children. Can you direct me. Or do
you know anything of this family? Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Cathy
Can anyone tell me how to obtain information on the evergreen cemetery in
tioga Pennsylvania? Or how to get the death certificate of someone buried there?
Thank You
Cathy

Hi Julie Hernandez,
Check whatever records you can find of passenger lists circa 1930. A hint
may be Hugh naming his son Patrick. Check ships from Ireland as well as Scotland
and England. Religion may also make a difference. I have lost my notes on
how to find ship passenger lists, maybe another reader can help ?

Leslie,
It is a 60 page quarterly - part Clan Campbell Society (North America)
information, part genealogy and part History/heritage.
You can order membership application forms from the website www.ccsna.org or
e-mail the Membership chair Michelle Campbell in Arizona USA at
desertlass(a)weberpremiere.com or call her at (623) 537-3509.
It used to be $25 US a year.
I used to edit the Journal for a number of years when working in Colorado.
I think it is worth the subscription/membership.
All best, Diarmid

Can you give me a little more info? Like do you know his Parents names
because off the top of my head I don't remember a Smith Campbell but that doesn't
mean I didn't miss him. Also when searching for my Campbells I found alot in
out lying areas that may or may not be any relation to me.

His Father, Thomas. Sr. came to Chester, Pa in 1747 with Thomas Jr., born in
1738 in New London Township, Ireland. He would have been 9 years old when he
came to Pa.
I think you may not quite have the Irish information correct. New London
Township is in Chester County, Pennsylvania.

John Fell (3), descendant of the ancestor Joseph Fell, was born July 8,
1748, in Bucks county, Pennsylvania, died September 7, 1819, in New London
township, Chester county, Pennsylvania. In 1775 he married Sarah Palmer, who
died at New London, 1796. She was the daughter of Jonathan Palmer and wife
Ann. Both are buried in Old West Grove graveyard. They first resided in
Warwick township, Bucks county, Pennsylvania, but in March, 1792, they
removed to Chester county, Pennsylvania, where they bought of Thomas
Campbell the farm "Delight," in New London township, containing 187 3/4
acres, for 50 pounds in gold and silver coin," except a half acre given to
St. John's Episcopal church.
from THE HISTORY OF CHESTER COUNTY PENNSYLVANIA, by Futhey and Cope (1881);
The township of New London, as well as Londongrove and London Britain were
doubtless so named because they were formed wholly or in part from the lands
belonging to the London Company.
Hope this helps.
