Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I am trying to locate the parents and ancestors of James Jonas Campbell
b. Feb. 12, 1826, Lee Co Va. I have information of father James
Campbell Jr. b. 1786, Cecil Co. MD m. Elizabeth Furguson Murphy. And,
James Campbell Sr., b.1744-1749 m. to Mary Gibbs as grandparents.
All found on the internet.
In the same entry on RootsWeb's World Connect they are connected to David
Campbell, father of the well known pioneer Arthur Campbell, as a brother
to Arthur, but I looked up that families history and it states the son
James died in his youth. (That would be the James Sr.)
There are two James Campbells (Jr. & Sr.) listed in the Lee Co.VA census.
Does anyone have their families before them. I have some family of
James Jones Campbell to present.

The following source list is to accompany the nine part series I have posted
the past few weeks of Campbell Entries I took from the book by Donald Whyte
entitled "Dictionary of Scottish Emigrants to the U. S. If anyone missed my
postings of these approximately 200 Campbell who came across the big pond,
you can either find them in the list archives or you can email me and I will
send you the complete list including this Source list I am about to post.
This will be the second part of the Source list.

Judi,
Thank you so much for taking the time to share the list of Campbells. I have
been putting them on a disc for future reference. Never know when a
connection will come along.
Thanks again,
Marsha
Hi- my name is Carroll (Casey) John Campbell. I am 33 and just starting a
search on my relatives. I have just recently learned of the Clan and the
CCS(NA). I would love to have the names of the people you mention in this
email. My history is hard to trace as my parents grandparents (great
grandparents) all seem to have died in the flu epedemic in Denver around
1911 and knowone can trace past those deaths. Thanks fop any help. Casey
P.S. My dad said we are from the Irish branch of the Clan. So I think my
Campbells rowed the boat from Dublin, not Glasgow! ;) Hows my geography?!

While researching my own Campbells in the book "Dictionary of Scottish
Emigrants to the U.S.A" by Donald Whyte, I came across quite a few other
Campbells not my own who had also emigrated so I made photocopies of the
pages and will be posting them in blocks of about 20 over the next 8-10 days.
Hopefully they will help someone. Some of the entries contain ship names,
most do not. Some of the info mentioned is from events that happened after
they arrived in the US taken from various sources by the author.
I have no further information on any of these entries EXCEPT explanations of
the sources given at the end of each entry. If anyone wants to know from what
source a particular entry came from, please email me off list at
Free2beJudi(a)cs.com and refer to the entry by the number listed at the end of
the entry.

This ends all the entries for campbell or cample. I will be posting the
source list tomorrow or the next day or both since it is long too. Please
remember if you do find your ancestor in here, that all entries need to be
verified from other sources and that this book is not God. For anyone
researching their scottish roots going to the US this is an invaluable tool
as it lists many many other surnames and it would behoove you to get an
inter-library loan on it and look at the actual book. I found that sometimes
entries were made under the wife's name but not under the husband's and it
also lists many of the children separate as well which would allow you to see
who they married etc. Enjoy. Judi

If anyone wants to know from what
source a particular entry came from, please email me off list at
Free2beJudi(a)cs.com and refer to the entry by the number listed at the end of
the entry.

Hi,
In my family history research I have come across a letter written by my
mother in 1967 to "John M Campbell and Son" which was answered by a Mr
Robert R Campbell of 98 West George St, Glasgow. He put Mum in touch with
her biological Father.
Is anyone familiar with this company or this particular Gentleman, or could
tell me what they did? Any leads would be most appreciated!
Julia
For those of you eagerly awaiting the remaining parts of the list I have been
listing I apologize. I have been buzy handling three emergencies and have
not had time to get to my genealogy but I will again resume the list with
Part 8 on Sunday night. Thank you for your patience. Judi
