List,
Does anyone have a John Campbell married to a Nancy
Hughes? In Rockbridge Co.Va. back in the 1800's.Or possible in Penn.
Thanks,
Nancy Campbell Phillips

Eddie
We have spoke on this before also you have discussed this with my brother at
one time. The two lines are the same, just can't seem to get past that one
line. Would like to find out where the line came from before VA. Do you
have any idea of the person of entry and place of entry.

I have belonged to many lists over the period of the last ten years and
have contributed to these lists whenever I can. I have had requests from
quite a few people to seek information in the Ontario, California library
where I weekly volunteer. I am more than happy to do this whenever I can,
and keep a database of the information being sought. This past two weeks I
have found obits and valuable information requested some time earlier and
when I tried to forward the information to the persons seeking it, it was
undeliverable because they have changed their e-mail addresses or home
addresses and not notified the lists or me. Please keep this in mind - if
you change your address (snail or e-mail) please let others you have
requested help from know it. I feel so badly that I have this information
and there is no one now to send it to. Again please keep your address
changes up to date with those you correspond with. You never know what you
might have waiting for you too. Please feel free to pass this suggestion
along to any list you belong to not on the one I have sent it to.
Thanks, Nancy Giles
While researching my own Campbells in the book "Dictionary of Scottish
Emigrants to the U.S.A" by Donald Whyte, I came across quite a few other
Campbells not my own who had also emigrated so I made photocopies of the
pages and will be posting them in blocks of about 20 over the next 8-10 days.
Hopefully they will help someone. Some of the entries contain ship names,
most do not. Some of the info mentioned is from events that happened after
they arrived in the US taken from various sources by the author.
I have NO further information on any of these entries EXCEPT explanations of
the sources given at the end of each entry. If anyone wants to know from what
source a particular entry came from, please email me off list at
Free2beJudi(a)cs.com and refer to the entry by the number listed at the end of
the entry.
PLEASE NOTE: IF ANYONE MISSES ONE OF THE INSTALLMENTS OF THIS POSTING JUST
WRITE ME AT THE ABOVE ADDRESS AND I WILL BE GLAD TO SEND IT TO YOU OFF LIST

mistake on my part. One seems to be a correction of the other but it is
possible (not likely) that it is two different families. Judi

When I wrote the Colorado State archives for information on a relative of
mine who was incarcerated in Colorado, William A. Campbell's information was
attached. I know nothing more than what I give here.
William A. Campbell, prisoner 244, was convicted of larceny in Arapahoe Cty,
CO on May 28, 1877 and put into prison on June 12, 1877. He was sentenced
to four years and was 22 years of age. He was 6'3/4" with light hair and
gray eyes. His occupation was listed as Amalgamator and he says he was born
in Louisiville, KY. Under name of parent(s) was A. A. Austin (mother) of
Louisville. He was single and literate. He had a scar on the left side of
his forehead and w. A. Campbell tattooed on his right arm. Right before the
word Campbell was a T with a rocker at the bottom. Above it were two
hearts, side by side with a line drawn through them. He attempted to escape
on Sept 28 by breaking the fence and running. He was Discharged March 5,
1881.
That is all.
ex Greenock would refer to the departure from the Port of Greenock which is
twenty (modern) minutes west of Glasgow by car.
Greenock at one time was a very Gaelic speaking township as it was one of
two points where many, many Highlanders would come to the Low Country
through. The other was Gourock, just along the road.
Because ships could not get far enough up the Clyde in those days Greenock
and Gourock became leaving points for the New World (s), hence the 'ex
Greenock' and were very Highland in nature.
Incidentally, Gourock is the other end of the ferry route from Dunoon which
at one time was full of Campbells and now hardly any remain. It was also a
Gaelic speaking town at one time, but sadly no longer.
regards
Bruce Campbell

Surely there must have been Campbells in Russell Co, KY in the 1840's.
According to Russell County Marriage Records, a Louisa J. Campbell
married William D. Busby on June 18, 1842 in Russell County, KY.
Looking for information regarding her parents and siblings. I've been
going on the assumption that Campbell was her maiden name but I guess
it's possible that she could have been married before to a Campbell. If
so, I would have no clue as to her maiden name.
HELP????
Paula
"Ex" means "out of" or "from" and the name following (such as Greenock) is
the harbour/town the ship left from on that particular voyage.

I am trying to restore files from a virus, but from memoryI can tell you he
was born after 1887 (my grandfather's year of birth) in Meigs County Ohio,
probably in Pomeroy. My George was the younger brother and relocated to
Youngstown area. Don't know if he married before or after he married. If my
memory is right his father was Robert
Yes! Many thanks!
I too have to keep all postings !
My William b, ca, 1845 IL. m, Georgina Roland of New York.,lived in Boone
County KY. And there raised his family! There's a Willie Uncle to dad -
James E .b, 1905 Louisville . Also uncle Tom, Aunt Maggie, Aunt Flora. And
George P. My dad's dad! b, 1876, Boone County.
George was a cook in the Spanish American war- as well as a river boat cook!
I found a "WILLIAM CAMPBELL" as a cook on the river - just can't connect him
to my tribe as of yet! LOL! Thanks , Katie nee Campbell

Margaret,
My Campbells are from Boyd, Elliot and Greenups counties in KY. I have not
found those names in my searching, Mine also seem to be fairly common, My
gr grandfather is John Leonard Campbell b. 1881, in Old Buford Furance(near
the mouth of the Tygart Creek and Big Sandy I have been told), his father
was William Campbell (is buried in a place called Caroline Furnace, I am
assuming it is in the same area) and his father was Hiram, we are not
exactly sure of Hiram's fathers name. I think it may be another William
from VA. Have you come across a Jesse Campbell Crooks in your searching.
This is my gr grandmother and she married a Campbell, but know there is
another line of Campbells in there also with that middle name. Or have you
found any Hurst's connected to your line. My grandfather was a Hurst but
one of his forefathers name is Campbell Hurst so I think there is a
connection there also.
Let me know if there is a possible connection.

If anyone wants to know from what
source a particular entry came from, please email me off list at
Free2beJudi(a)cs.com and refer to the entry by the number listed at the end of
the entry.
PLEASE NOTE: IF ANYONE MISSES ONE OF THE INSTALLMENTS OF THIS POSTING THAT I
AM MAKING JUST WRITE ME AT THE ABOVE ADDRESS AND I WILL BE GLAD TO SEND IT
TO YOU OFF LIST (Capitals added for emphasis not to symbolize yelling)

Margaret,
No one is referring to your posts as irreverent Spam., The problem, I assume
is that both John and I are being Spammed by some moron, through Roots Web
PRIVATELY. At the moment some charmer is harvesting e-mail address's .I know
this for fact. I'm one of his victims.
I subscribe to this list because I happen to be to fortunate precipitant of
Maternal and Paternal direct Campbell lines, in Argyll , Angus and Perth
Sct. With names like John, Donald , Robert and James Campbell, I need all
the help I can get.
Please, don't jump the gun and get angry, it's non-productive. A little
tolerance till this is sorted out would be great.

Did I miss something? This is the listserv for Campbells.....the whole
point is to share info and make queries so we can all further our genealogy
research. If you don't want this, then why are you subscribed to this list?
And why don't you simply unsubscribe, that option is given at the end of
every post. I don't appreciate my queries being referred to as irrelevant

Judi,
Thanks so much for the time I know it takes to put all of this information
on the list, I am saving those emails because if I can ever get my Campbells
out of the Hills of KY and VA they could prove to be very valuable.

I copied from Orange county Probate Records vol. D 1807-1815 at the LDS Library
the will for Edward
Campbell of Wall kill, Orange County NY. Will was written 3 August 1804 and
probated 14 July 1809. Will mentions stepdaughter Agnes Wilson, Grand Daughter
Malinda Murphy, son James and daughters Jane and Mary. Does any one have any
information connecting Edward to the other Campbell Families in Orange County
NY?
Marian
Linda,
I have a Campbell or two also "hiding out" in Kentucky.....such common names
it's hard to find anything, since I have almost no info on my
great-grandmother Elizabeth (Bettie) Ann Campbell, except that she had a
brother named Lucius, who I have been able to find in census records
(assuming Lucius wasn't a more common Campbell name). My Bettie Campbell
was born abt. 1866 and died 1 Jul 1941 in Anderson Co., KY. Would you
have any info on these Campbells?
Thanks!
Margaret

Judi,
Thanks so much for the time I know it takes to put all of this information
on the list, I am saving those emails because if I can ever get my Campbells
out of the Hills of KY and VA they could prove to be very valuable.
