I also agree. I didn't take it as being political. Just a Campbell.

Hello Campbell List,
I am very interested in a John Campbell who lived in Sussex Co., DE, he married
bef. 1744 Isabella Holmes, d/o Robert and Jennet Holmes. On 3 May 1744 in the
Orphans Court of Sussex Co., DE it mentions Charles Coulter who married
Esabelle Campbel widow of John Campbel. It mentions that a George Campbell
received a payment. Robert Holmes mentions in his will in 1754 his
granddaughter Elizabeth Campbell. Jenett Holmes in her will in 1769 names one
of her heirs John Black (son of James) and gives excutorship to her friend James
Black. In 1775 Jennet's estate was settled by Elizabeth Black executor of
James Black. We believe that this Elizabeth Black is the daughter of John
Campbell and Isabella Holmes. My questions, who are the parents of John
Campbell and who is George Campbell? Anybody recognize this family?
Thanks,
Shelley Hill

I am researching my Great - great grandmothers line. Her name was Elizabeth Canyshell born 1814 in Maryland. She married Nathan Smith and lived in Indiana for several years, then they moved to Ohio where they finally settled in Athens Co.,Ohio.
It has been suggested to me that the name CANYSHELL could have been Americanized to CAMPBELL. I am not sure if this has happened. I am sending away for proof of that. What I do know is that the only other CANYSHELL that I have found is Robert CANYSHEL in 1741 had his son Robert CANYSHEL christened at the Drumachose Parish in Londonderry, Ireland.
I know that my gr-gr- grandmother maiden name is CANYSHELL as all of the cousin's that I find have her listed as CANYSHELL.
I am looking for any help on this line. I know there were some CAMPBELL's that came from Ireland. If anyone knows that their name CAMPBELL was once CANYSHELL could you please contact me.
Thank you,

State GOP honors Campbell
Former two-term governor 'in awe' as party leaders praise accomplishments
From Staff and Wire Reports
Copyright The State
Former South Carolina Gov. Carroll Campbell said Friday night he was
overwhelmed to be honored at the state Republican Party's annual Silver
Elephant Banquet.
"I'm in awe. I'm just in awe of what was said," Campbell said after a bevy of
speakers praised him for his service to the state. "Thank you very much for
it."
Campbell, the second Republican governor of South Carolina since
Reconstruction, was a four-term congressman before he took the governor's
office in 1986. He easily won re-election in 1990 but was limited to two
terms by state law.
He is credited with building the party and leading the Republicans' House
takeover in 1994. But the GOP suffered devastating losses in 1998 --
including the governor's office.
"When I first started, we could hold the Silver Elephant in Lizard's
Thicket," Campbell said. "We kind of picked it up from there."
Two former governors -- David Beasley and James Edwards -- plus Campbell's
two former chiefs of staff took turns reminiscing and praising Campbell.
"Governor Campbell," Beasley said, "thank you. Thank you for the foundation
we've built upon."
After leaving office, Campbell began working for the Washington-based
American Council of Life Insurance for $1 million a year. He has remained
active in South Carolina politics and was instrumental in helping Texas Gov.
George W. Bush win South Carolina's 2000 Republican presidential primary, a
win that saved Bush's faltering campaign after a big loss in New Hampshire.
Back in May, Campbell said he had turned down two ambassadorship offers from
President Bush and said he likely would not return to politics.
Then, in October, the former governor revealed that he has Alzheimer's
disease.
As part of the annual banquet on Friday, the party's candidates for statewide
and congressional office also were showcased.
Campaign signs covered the front entranceway at Seawell's banquet hall near
the State Fairgrounds.
Lt. Gov. Bob Peeler's famed plastic cow from his days as the owner of a dairy
was out front with a "Peeler for Governor" banner. Secretary of State Jim
Miles brought his campaign RV -- the Miles Express.
Seven Republicans are vying for the gubernatorial nomination to take on
Democratic incumbent Jim Hodges in the fall.
College students sported T-shirts with their candidates of choice and handed
out campaign stickers, buttons and pamphlets.
