I have a Levi Campbell, born Feb 12/13,1798 in either Lancaster or Chester Co., married Martha Carson (b. 1798) that I descend from. Wondered if there is anyway he fits into your info on the Alexander Campbell family?
Geo.
Doubt if the 13 Duke will change anything the SETT is set. He could follow
the 7th Duke's presedent and make a personal tartan(the one with yellow and
white stripes over the Blackwatch). If the sett changes , could you imagine
the confusion world wide trying to change the "old" kilt?

Hello Jeff,
In regards to tartans, the tartan approved, for lack of a better word, by the chief for all Campbells to wear, is known in the trade, as Ancient Campbell, Black Watch is considered the same, just darker, and also on the list of approved tartans. There are three other tartans, associated with branches, Breadalbane, Cawdor and Loudoun.
A great deal more may be obtained on the Societies Website, www.ccsna.org.
Hope I have been of some assistance,
Yours aye,
Michael Fisher

You are almost certainly descendants of Hans Ulrich Arner and Verena Eberhard, 1735 immigrants from Switzerland to Philadelphia. Join us for an August 24-25, 2002 gathering in beautiful Lehigh County, Pennsylvania (1 hour north of Philadelphia). For “reunion” information or to see where you fit into the *rner family, visit Joe Erner’s website at www.geocities.com/~erner/gen/arner which documents the Arner/Aner family to the 1500s, or contact us through the Arner Listserv at ARNER-L(a)rootsweb.com. We’re planning two fun-filled days including a catered Pennsylvania Dutch luncheon and the dedication of a memorial stone in the Heidelberg Union Church cemetery to honor the immigrants. Help us widen our circle of cyber-cousins and plan to attend. We welcome you.

than the other...The Campbell Tartan has no other colors but the
black-green-blue and that means no other colored strips..why there seems to
be a lot of yellow and white strips gets and I have ask why and the say they
don't know..it may have something to do with septs. hope have helped a
little. You can find a lot out about Tartan at WWW.CCSNA.org

William campbell was born in 1859 in Pennsylvania-not sure but could have been in Lancaster. His parents were Patrick Campbell and Ellen Gibbons. Patrick died in the Civil war and Ellen died in 1866. William and his brother, Patrick were raised by their uncle Owen who lived in Clearfield County, PA.
I descend through Patrick but if anyone is looking for William I would like to exchange information.
Thanks,
Nikki

I wish it helped. I am beginning to think that no one knows anything about my Campbell family. All I know is that William was b. abt. 1815. His father was probably George; his mother *might* have been Nancy Brafford. I can't get any further than that. Thanks.

Could this family be related to James Ernest Campbell AKA: Ernie Hurles, who grew up in foster care in Chillicothe, Ohio? He grew up with Pete Hurles,He married Marie Watkins b:1924 Greenup, Ky,d:1981 Hamiton, Ohio. James was murdered by his father-in-law Ernest Watkins on Dec.17,1959. The newspaper said he was 39 years old. This would make his birthdate 1920. Any info appreciated.
While people are looking in this area if anyone happens to find the death record of Charles C. (Critten) Campbell in about 1904 I would appreciate knowing. He was a gr-gr-grandfather born in Smyth County, VA.
C.C. Campbell had a son William who married an Annie Rutherford (second marriage) who was from West Virginia. From letters we found, C.C. was at the home of Annie's mother when he died. Her letter was from New Martinsburg/Martinsville, WVA.
If anyone finds this one we would be most grateful to hear.
