I sure wish I could connect. I've been looking for my deadend Grandfather to no avail. He was George Campbell, b. 1864 in either IN
or ILL and living in KY by 1899 possibly before 1870. If you get dates and birth places of these people and any of them born outside
KY, I would like to know. Have no idea who George's parents were, but the possibility exists that his dad was named George or Francis.

Listed in the 1860 census of Knox Co. KY page 67
This was passed on to me so at this moment I don't have ages of these people or the relationship to one another.

Hi.... I am interested in your Addison Campbell since I also have an
Addison in MY family. Where was he from? My addison was my dad's older
brother and he lived in Greenville, Pa , and his great grandmother's name
was Sarah. Just curious.

On the census look at the page and line on which they appear in the census.
If the page number is the same and the line number runs consecutive they
most likely are family with the first being the father, the second being the
wife & the rest being Children in age order, in most cases. Also observe
the names, as back then fathers name was most often assigned to the oldest
son and the mothers surname given to daughters or as the middle name of the
second son. This is not a hard and fast rule, but if you consider same it
will be to your advantage. Look for a flow of names down the family chart.
Again good luck.
My Edward came in to Charleston in 1788, so yours was here before mine. I
looked in the book "Carolina Scots" and I couldn't believe that there wasn't
an Edward Campbell in there. If you are sure that he was in Cumberland
County, NC you should get on the Rootsweb list for that county also. When you
make a query to the list give as much info as you have even if it is
something that you just think may be. Try to give all names and places and
relatives known to you. You may want to try the USGenweb site and go to NC
and make a general search for him, he may have been somewhere in NC before
the 1790 census that would show up on land, Tax list or an early census that
some states did or counties. SC did one in 1779. Good luck.
Thank you very much for responding. No, your Thomas Jefferson Campbell is
not the one I am referring to. Though it would nice!!
My Campbells are from Giles County, Tennessee, and as far as I know TJ was
both born and died there. He married Mary Campbell, daughter of Joab Campbel
l, who just appeared in Middle Tennessee around 1810.
The father of Thomas Jefferson was Hugh Campbell who 'just appeared' around
1808, married Elizabeth Phillips and then Mary Jane Snipes.
Any of these names mean anything to you? Sure hope so.
Thanks again, Evelyn
Is he by chance related to your Campbells.
Bob, the Edward I'm searching was born 1746 and I know he was in Cumberland Co. NC. in 1790. May have lived in the Buie Creek are of what is now Harnett Co. close to Johnston Co. Where did your Edward come into America? VA? Cape Fear? SC? or somewhere else? Can't track my Edward's path to Cumberland Co. Any Suggestions? Thanks, Wanda

Subject: Edward Campbell
I have an Edward Campbell that was born in Scotland around 1757 and came to
US in 1788. Does this fit the one you are looking for?
My ggg grandfather is Thomas Jefferson Campbell, born 2/22/1793 in Knox
County, Tennessee and died 4/13/1850 in Washington, DC. He was a member of
Congress and then Clerk of the House of Representatives.
Is he the TJC to whom you are referring?

Subject: JUDGE JOHN CAMPBELL, JR. b. 1938
I am looking for the John Campbell Sr. b. 1938, who is descended from Thomas
Jefferson Campbell, of Giles County, Tennessee. John was a Judge in Texas
somewhere around Fort Worth. I have some information that he furnished to
the current residents of the Campbell Home Place in Prospect, Tennessee, and
I would like to locate him.
Any clue would be greatly appreciated.

If you know how to reduce these risks.
I appreciate your note. I checked out Genweb and found literally hundreds
of Campbells in Franklin County! A number of them included a Joseph. I
don't know which one to claim! How I wish I could tell one Joseph Campbell
from another! I will look again when I have more time to see if I can
narrow it down. Thanks again!

I'm researching a James Campbell, married to Elizabeth Balch. He had
one brother Thomas Campbell who never married and a sister ? Married to
William Young. They were living in Mecklenburg County, NC which later
became Cabarrus County in the 1790's. I don't know if they migrated to
Tennessee, some of their children did: Silas, Joel, William, Sidney (my
ggrandfather), James, Edwin, Mary "Polly", Mathilda, Elizabeth, Anna,
Martha and Samuel. I don't have a date of birth or death for James or
Elizabeth. Thanks, Barbara (Campbell) Markel

Unfortunately, I have not gone back as far as you have- but these
Campbells of mine are a stubborn lot- I feel as though they just might
be making it difficult on purpose! My grandmother's favorite line when
asked about the past and Scotland was "Shush! Just never ye mind, it nay
Of course later I found she had left two children behind . . . a very
sad story, and possibly too painful for her to talk about-
But, regarding your Robert Campbell, if you have any other bit of
information you might try the familysearch.org web site. Limit your
search to Scotland and the two years. I did a quick look through, and
it appearred as though some Roberts were listed, but without parent's
names, rather an informant at birth may have been a realtive
(non-Campbell whose name may fit somewhere in your tree), or family
Just a thought. Do you not have anyother tidbit in which you might be
able to glean something slight detail which could narrow the search- a
wife, child - etc.-?
Good luck. I also have also utilized services, "Scottish Roots"
(pricey, slow, but accurate) and another source (5 Stars) :
-I don't remember what I paid, I supplied him with copies of everything
I had, and a nominal fee (extremely reasonable -the fact that I don't
remember is a statement itself as to how reasonable he must have been).
Thorough, complete, accurate, fast, and a keen sense of how and what to
search next. If you are really stumped, I would contact him, and see
what he can do or suggest!
