I wish to correspond with anyone who has any ideas of the parents or
siblings of John Campbell, born ca 1779 in Virginia. He married Aney
Webster in 1819 in Madison Co., Alabama.
Researching the Cambell line I am connected to. The family has been at it off
and on for about ten yrs. with no luck, and no help from the Campbell side. I
know we have cousins and they must have some info, that would help, but
haven't been able to make the conection.
The wall starts at:
Delbert Campbell, born July 1, 1902, possibly in New York. Married Lyda
Hammon in El Paso, Texas. Lived in Pawnee, Oklahoma in 1924??? Children:
Alberta (Jean) Breatrice Campbell, Donald Campbell, Alwin Campbell, and one
daughter died at very young age. When Delbert and Lyda devoriced, he lived in
Michigan, with the sons.
Alberta Campbell married many times and her children are:
Donald Kellogg, Kennith W. Kellogg, Robert L. Farkas, William (Billy) E.
Farkas, Betty June Farkas, Joanne Lyda Farkas (That's me), Deanna J. Farkas.
Alwin Campbell married Helen ? The children I have been able to list so far
are Jaquilyn and Butch.
There are many more grandchildren but haven't been able to access there names
yet.
If you can help in anyway, I'd be more then willing and greatful!!
thank you so much,
Joanne Lyda (Farkas-Campbell) Salvino

Dear Diane:
I can't help you prove your relationship or trace your connection to
Scotland. BUT I can confirm the following:
In 1882, when 2,845 Campbell males all over Canada signed an "Address"
to the Marquess of Lorne, there were three signatures from Barney's
River, NS: Peter (farmer), S.D. (farmer), and George (Bl'ksmith).
Unfortunately, the pamphlet which published all of the signatures con-
tains no information on age, relationships, address, or women! For
general information on the address, see my web site and click the link
concerning the 1882 document on the Campbell Males of Canada.

Maureen,
A tiny border town [VA-NC] named Campbell, Stokes Co., NC....
occupied decades before, and after, 1800?
I have no idea if my CAMPBELL were there.... but the time frame, and
the location are most intriguing.
I'm researching;
Charles CAMPBELL, b. circa 1738 [possibly in Augusta Co., VA]
d. circa 1815, Vermillion Parish, LA
and wife........... Elizabeth _________, b. 1740-50 [Scotland?]
d.
date/location are unknown
We have always had CAMPBELL liste for her maiden name, and a
cousin relationship, in our family records for Elizabeth but recently I've
come across another possibility for her.
One of my distant, lateral line, cousins found a tidbit of information
that I just can't let rest. The possibility of BELINDESS as her maiden
name. Casual research has discovered that this isn't a surname, on
it's own, but it could be a misspelling of BELINDEN or BELLENDEN.
Corruptions of this name are BALANDYNE and BALANDINE
Pronounced..... " Baa - lind - e 'en" or "Baa - land e 'en".
Research has discovered that this is an old surname of the landed
nobility of the lowlands in Scotland. It is a Sept of Clan CAMPBELL
and Clan Stewart of Bute. It was found in Black's, under the spelling
of BALANDYNE.... in a quote, "older than the time of Bellenden",
which refers to a Jon Bellenden who was quite notable circa 1650.
I'm looking for anything, anywhere, that can corroborate this as her
maiden name, and also I'm looking for knowledge of the following.....
Levi CAMPBELL, b. circa 1760-64 [VA or NC]
..............................and the possible siblings being;
Charles CAMPBELL Jr., Robert CAMPBELL, and possibly a
William CAMMEL
All of these gentlemen, along with Charles CAMPBELL Sr., were
found on the 1786 Tax List for Wilkes Co., GA. The part of the County
that later became Oglethorpe Co., GA. This could be some of the same family
[a father and at least 3 sons] but I only know for sure on
Charles Sr., and Levi. I'm descended from Levi CAMPBELL who was
'supposed' to be an only child. This status is now in question.
Since your records precede the 1786 date.... does anything look
familiar to you?
Much obliged,
Lisa Grimes

I am writing in response to the request for the book Historical Sketches of
the Campbell, Pilcher and Kindred Families by Margaret Campbell Pilcher
(1911). I have a copy of the book. I also gave a copy to the Dallas Public
Library several years ago. I do not believe my family is mentioned in the
book, however a sizable number of John Campbells are listed in the Partial
Index. If you are unable to gain access to a copy of the book, let me know
and I will attempt to scan the references for your names and see if any of
them were in locations where your family lived.

Sipes: Isabella b. 1820: Margret b.? Married Obediah Thompson in
Columbiana Co. Ohio in 1849: Rachel b.1836: Elizabeth b. 1838: Joseph

Does anyone have access to or know where I can locate CAMPBELL, PITCHER &
KINDRED FAMILIES by Margaret Campbell Pitcher? She writes about a James
Campbell from Cherry Valley, NY. b in Ireland in 1690.
I am researching a David Campbell, b 1791, Cherry Valley, NY who m Mary
White. I have a blank wall! Could be a grandson or ggrandson.
Will appreciate any help in direction to take.
Hi!
I'm interested in tracing my Campbell roots. I was able to find good
info on the pictouroots list. I found out that my gr grandfather was
buried in the Kenzieville Cemetery, Barney's River, Nova Scotia with the
dates of 1837-1920. My father was born there in 1922. He says that
George was a blacksmith and this was confirmed by the Census of 1871 as
noted by the work of Marsha M. on the Kenzieville Cemetery listing. My
father says that George also ran the Post Office in Barney's River. I
was looking in the Canadian National Archives web site and found a
Postmaster of Barney's River named George Campbell from Feb 1, 1880 to
Dec 1, 1900. In 1880, he would have been age 43 and in 1900, age 63; so
this is feasible. How can I find out if this is my gr grandfather?
There is another Postmaster George Campbell from Feb 1, 1912 to July 19,
1920. Who is he? The same George or not? In 1912, he would have been
age 75, and in 1920, age 83. 1920 is the year he died; exact date as
yet unknown by me. I would like to know if George was born in and had
siblings in Nova Scotia. I would like to know who his parents were and
where they were born. I would eventually like to trace my Campbell
line to Scotland to find out what part of Scotland we are from.
Can anyone help?

Patty, I belive I have figured out who you are. I didn't notice your E-Mail
address at first, but when I went back to your message, I immediately knew

Well, I'm one of his sons. I live near Harrisburg, Pa. now, but I had been
living in Pensacola, Fl for about 26 years. If you are who I think you are,
pleaase writ back and let me know. I have been compiling photos and info on
the Campbell Family for the past five years. Thake Care....hope to hear
from you soon.

Hi all,
Looking for the parents of Agnes Campbell b. 1905 in Mother Well,
Scotland d. 1966 in Ontario, Canada. She had possibly 11 siblings. The
names I have are Jessie, Becky, Bill, Nan, Kate, Jean and a sister that
died around 20 yrs old. Nan apparently moved to New York. Most of them
stayed in Scotland with 3 of them coming to Canada. Jean(d. around 51
yrs old of cancer) m. Wilfred Gratton and had 6 children.
Any help appreciated.
. I am looking
for information on John Campbell who was born in January 1822 in TN. He
married (1) Mahala Jane ? and (2) Nancy ? in 1888 (in Arkansas). In 1850 he
was in Murray County Georgia; in 1860 he was in Putnam County TN; 1870 I
can't find him but in 1880 he was in Marion County AR. I have the book that
recontructs the 1890 Census for Marion County and it appears that he was
there at that time. He was also there in 1900. He died Dec 20, 1905 but I
cannot find out where. I checked Marion County cemetaries and cannot find
him or his son Greenville CAMPBELL. It was suggested to check Boone County
because many of the family were living in Lead Hill, AR. I cannot find him
in the Boon County cemetary list either.
Does anyone have access to death records for 1905?
Children of John M. Campbell and Mahala Jane (that I know of) are:
Greenville Campbell, bn abt 1845. Married Margaret Dodson
Joel Franklin Campbell, b March 1849. Married (1)Sarah Ann Lance and (2)
Mary Francis Hawkins
Nancy C Campbell, b Mar 1856. She married James Parks
Malinda E Campbell, b Mar 1851. She married Elldridge Walker
Lucinda Campbell, b abt 1846
If anyone else is researching any of these people, please let me know.
Thanks

Does anyone have information about a small hamlet in Stokes County, North Carolina, just south of
the VA-NC border, called Campbell? I suspect that my Campbells may have lived there in the
decades before and after 1800. It appears to be located in hilly country, and it's not very close
to any town of any size--even today! Evidently, there was a post office there at one time, but
not any more.
Thanks, Maureen
