Jean,
Do you live near Ashville? If so, do you know anyone that would do research
there. I did not have time to really stop there when I was headding back
home and need to hire someone to do so research there. Don't know how much
that may be found because I am interested in the Wood family in the time
frame of 1760 when Ashville was still called Ashey by some of the early
settlers.

Was John - John Wesley CAmpbell? I am trying to find the rest of the
brothers and sister's family of Charles Robert CAmpbell. His siblings were
born in Ill. and a lot of them, so I have been told, migrated to MO.

Good Evening,
I am at my sons for a few days. Just pulled in this afternoon from S. C.,
N. C., Va., Ky and Tenn.
I visited with Phillip Campbell who is the present owner of both Henry and
Jane and Abraham and Winnie's home places. I visited the graves of Winnie
and Abraham.
Abraham had a place (it had been filled in later) just under the eave of the
log house where they could fight the Indians if necessary. Henrys house
had the logs covered with wood boards but Philip had taken part of the wood
covering off of one wall and had build a new hearth for the fireplace.
There was an old picture of wagons loaded with logs coming down the
mountains pulled by about four pairs of horses.
Also, was told that Winnie was the daughter of John Sevier, the officer in
the American Rev. and also the first governer of the state of Tenn. Now you
will not find Winnie listed as one of John's children. It was also told me
that Winnie was raised by the Indians near Halifax (didn't know if it was N.
C. or Va. only a river divides the two). It is possibile that Winnie's
mother was a Cherokee Indian. Winnie was known as a witch. Neither she nor
Abraham was buried in the family Cem. but across the valley on a little
knoll a short distance from their home. The grave site is still know as
the grave of the witch.
Winnie was evidently will educated in the use of herbs as medicine as this
was part of the reason that she was know as a witch because people would
come to her when they were sick and she would know what was wrong with them
and then fix a herb tea of some sort or mix an herb salve for sores. She
also knew things that was happening when she had no way of knowing them.
I must close for now. If you belong to this Campbell family line, please
let me hear from you.
Beth

Good Afternoon,
I have just return from S. C., N. C., VA., Ky. and other places. Will be
back on the web when settled.
Would like for those of you who have roots in Russell Co., VA. to give the
following some thought and let me know what you think.
While visiting in Russell Co., I was graciously welcomed. I was introduced
to Mr. Campbell who now owns the original land grant of Henry and Jane
Campbell. Was shown the Campbell cem., located on Henry and Janes farm and
also the graves of Abraham and Winnie on the land that was Abraham and
Winnies. Both of these OLD homes are still standing. Abraham does need a
new roof and some repairs if it is to remain standing. The Campbell Cave
located on Abrahams place has been explored even by bus loads from Europe.
It has never been completely explored.
Both cem. need repair.
NOW< I was wondering if perhahps some of us could get our heads together and
plan a gathering of the Herny and Jane Campbell Clan. I have never planned
such an event but would really like to see one planned for the spring of
2003. Mr. CAmpbell is willing to work with us if there is enough interested
to make it plyable.
Could anyone tell me or give me ideas of how to contacgt someone to help
plan perhaps some highland games, and put something of this sort gtogether.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Now, my son says that I have over 4,000 messages waiting for me. Therefore,
if I am slowing in replyhing, please understand.
Beth
Does anyone have this census if so could you please lookup
Thanks so much

i don't usually say much but i now have a web page with my family tree on
it so if anyone wants to check it out. here is the web page. my campbell
line is quite long but there are still many quesitons about the far
distant past campbells.
check it out, since i've had a lot of luck with the campbells there are
many names many of which are really cousins but since i'm a bit of a pack
rat with names, i've collected many people.

In searching for my GEORGE CAMPBELL and possible parents of George, I've
searched numerous census entries from various counties across Indiana.
Its been very difficult to discipher which possibilities to persue so I
compiled information I gathered into a more concise list. Hope this
might help someone else. The data has not been proofed and I have no
further information at this time. Data is dependant on the census year,
therefore not always indicated.

A Campbell cousin, Vernon Buck, has done a wonderful job and made a probable
identification of James Young's father as James Campbell of Salem Co. He
has proof that Artis Campbell is son of James of Salem Co., NJ. This is from
Salem Co., NJ Deeds, Vol. TT, p.402 :"...land the said Artes Campbell became
possessed of by virtue of a deed...of his father James Campbell bearing date
March 17, 1835...". This looks especially interesting as James Young named
one of his sons James Artis, an unusual name. James Campbell of Salem also
fits the description of James Young's father left by my ggrandmother in a
note in a bible that she gave to my father for his tenth birthday.
Unfortunately she described where he lived, his age at his death, and the
number of children he had, but did not tell us his name.
James Campbell of Salem was apparently married twice. First to Deborah
Ayers , dau. of Phineas Ayars and Sarah Barrett. James of Salem and Deborah
Ayars were married in Cumberland Co., NJ 8-Nov-1803. The theory is that
Deborah died very soon after James Y. was born and James of Salem remarried
to Temperance
Bradford. Vernon Buck has proof that Deborah was dead by 1832 when a Salem
Co. deed refers to the "heirs of Deborah Campbell".
Does anyone else have information on James Young or James and Deborah Ayers
Campbell that might enable us to solve this mystery?
Thanks-
Linda Campbell Vinson

This story has been forwarded to several lists, but is so touching that I
feel everyone should have a chance to read it. Anyone of us could have been
in this situation and with the exception of the gunman himself, everyone
involved has acted in such wonderful ways. It can't be easy dealing with
any crisis, but these people and those who graciously came to their aid have
come through with flying colors.

Jean sent you a message last week that we were going to the Family
History Library in SLC to do research. Thank God for the bravery and
leadership of staff member John Beebe and others. I was less than
twenty feet from the gunman when he started shooting. When they
evacuated us from the first floor it was at least 45 minutes before
they evacuated the second basement where Jean was locked in an office
with other researchers and staff praying. You can imagine my fear and
anxiety for that time. After an hour or so the police directed us
across the street to Abravonal Hall, a concert hall where we could
reunite with missing loved ones and group members. There were still
13 of our 40 member group from Orange County California Genealogical
Society missing. Within half an hour of getting there local catering
companies had hot lunch buffet tables set up and the staff members
from the library where there serving us, perhaps 500 to a thousand,
free food. they responded immediately to the need without thinking of
the cost. Our group was asked to meet in the lobby and a very young,
perhaps twenty, year old man with a badge that said LDS Services
listened to our stories. There was little he could do other than get
us the current information as best he could and to listen. In the
library at the time of the crises there was no screaming of panic;
under the leadership of Mr. Beebe we were evacuated safely and
orderly. Of course people were terrified, but everything was orderly.
That night at dinner the waitress overheard us talking and said she
was spouse to one of the swat team in the crises. She gave us free
desserts and said in this small way she could comfort us. Saturday
morning when Jean and I went into the library to get our things it was
very somber. As we left out the back door Jean was crying and a LDS
staff lady came up to us and asked if there was anything she could do
to help. The all were so kind and caring. For my part I'd like to
point out that this kind of tragedy can happen at any time and any
place when one is dealing with a mentally unstable person. As I have
pieced together the stories of others present I realized how any one
of us could have been harmed had Mr. Beebe not acted in his courageous
manner. Today in the paper I read that he (and his wife) do not
consider themselves heroes. The honor goes to God for giving him the
strength to do what he did..He was shot at three times, once literally
splitting the hair on his head. I choose to emphasize the strength of
the human spirit that pulls people together in time of crises. I'm
sure there were over a thousand people in the library when this
occurred. This community, and especially those members of the LDS
church were outstanding in their helpfulness to those in need. I am
not Mormon, but want to give these people the credit they deserve. If
it is in your tradition, I ask you to pray for those that have
suffered loss or fear from this ordeal. I have spoken with several
that do not intend to return to SLC again because of the fear. thank
you for indulging my rambling and excuse my spelling.

Hi all. Here's the problem(s):
Susan BOYD came to Canada from County Sligo with an older sister about
1834-5 and lived in Perth, Ontario, with an uncle. I presume she went
to school there but no records. Or are there? Is there a census for
1841? She married Daniel CAMPBELL in Jan, 1842 in Cornwall, Ont. No
records. They had Thomas Boyd CAMPBELL in Oct., 1842 in Charleston,
Ont. No records. Then Elizabeth Foxton CAMPBELL in Brockville May,
1845. No records. Then Thomas Boyd CAMPBELL in Madoc, Ont., in Oct.
1848. No record. Heeeelllppp!! Thanks.

James CAMPBELL married Melvina WHITAKER August 15, 1843 in Claiborne County,
TN.
They had one child that we know of. Eldridge E. Campbell was born January
17, 1845 in "Tennessee". By 1850 census, Eldridge was living with John
WHITAKER in Ft. Madison, Lee County, Iowa. Also living with John WHITAKER
in 1860 census, in Green Twp, Knox County, MO. In 1868 Eldridge was
married in Kansas and listed his home as Ft. Madison, Iowa. Eldridge
CAMPBELL settled first in Merrick County, Nebraska, then Nance County,
Nebraska where he is buried.
Obviously, something happened to one or both of Eldridge's parents. There
is a will for a James Campbell referenced in 1849 in Claiborne County court
records, but no mention of who wife is or heirs. Cannot locate original
filing or final filing. In 1858 there is a court reference to the
guardianship of Eldridge Campbell of Iowa in Claiborne County. Again cannot
find original filing, or final filing.
Looking for a copy of George Campbell's will, the one who was married to
Elizabeth Dobkins.
We have found a James Campbell buried in Potters Cemetery, Platte County,
Nebraska, in 1866, age 45 years 6 mos. Born Ireland. Died of a liver
complaint. Does anyone know anything about this James Campbell?

My name is Donita Campbell Taggett. I have decided to trace our
family line due to the fact that I recently found out that I may have
two half sisters out there, that I never knew about. I live in
Limestone,Maine, which makes it hard to examine documents in Indiana.
I really need to start at the very end of the line, because I was
never told anything about my father or his family, which is the
Campbell side my lineage. So, here are the few facts that I have:
My fathers name is Dean E. Campbell. He was born the son of Carl and
Pauline Pelletier Campbell on October 13, 1934, in Huntington,
Indiana. His obituary states that his date of death is September 16,
1960, and he was an airman in the Air Force, stationed at Loring AFB,
Maine. Both his parents were deceased at the time of his death. I
have over heard family members say that he was then reared by his
grandmother.
This is why I am asking for any information regarding Carl or Pauline
Pelletier Campbell. A marriage certificate would lead me to dad's
grandmother. I would also like to know if the Huntington paper ran an
obituary on my father, as there seems to be a discreptancy regarding
how he died.
I was also informed that dad was married once prior to his marriage to
my mother. He fathered two daughters in that marriage; one named
Linda and the other was either Diane(a) or Deanna. The name of his
bride is unknown.
That is the only facts I have to date. I am hoping that someone will
come up with something. I have two sisters out there
... somewhere ...
