HI,
I am trying to track down my two relatives. Ed and Hugh Campbell were born in
Shotts, Scotland and they emigrated to Virginia around 1835?. Ed Campbell
married Sarah Walton from Louisa Co., VA. Supposedly Ed and maybe Hugh worked
for her father. I am trying to find out where (if in Louisa County) they
lived and the time period. All of the above information is hearsay.
<<Would anyone researching their Campbell ancestry have come across a
Francis
Campbell of Cumberland Co. Pennsylvania who had a son named Robert Campbell
born c. 1757?>>
I believe Francis is part of my indirect line. My earliest ancestor
William Campbell b.ca. 1702, settled in Cumberland Co. which is now
Franklin Co. along the Conococheague. I have several genealogies that
were sent to me by CCNA regarding other branches of this group. Some were
done along time ago. Same papers are in Campbell folder at Kittochtinny
Historical Soc. in Chambersburg.
Some of the data is conflicting. It is believed that three, possibly four
brothers settled in this area. William Charles, James, and possibly
Michael. Charles' will was filed in 1757 in Chester Co. and named children
Martha, James, William Michael. He left his land along the Conocheague to
James. There are land surveys and sales between brothers before 1750 in
this area of now Franklin co. My William died in Peters Twp Franklin co.
1783.
One chart I have shows James the immigrant having son James marrying Sarah
Campbell with issue Patrick, Francis, John and Robert. This person gave
Patrick a son Robert , and Robert a son Robert but listed no issue for
Francis. They gave his death as 1823. This whole thing is dubious .
I do have some death records taken from Presbyterian Church of Mercersburg
PA. They list a Francis Campbell as death Dec. 6, 1771.
In Revolutionary Soldiers of PA. shows a Francis Campbell Pvt. in Co. of
Capt James Wilson 6th PA Batt. under Col. W, Irvine. .......His will
prob. March 1791 names wife Elizabeth; Sons Francis, Ebenezer, Parker,
George, Daughter Elizabeth and Son-in-law Robert Tate. By his first wife
he had Rev John Campbell D.D born 1752 died at Carlisle. A 2nd. son Robert
Campbell killed 1779. There is more detail.
I can send you copies if you want them. Bon't know if this helps you?

Hello,
I am trying to reach further back into my family tree. They last Campbell I
have found is Oliver Campbell who married Mary Smith around 1851. I was told
Mary was a Mohawkian Princess. I believe Mary died in the Detroit area but
was buried in Michigan City Indiana around 1920.
If anyone has any info please let me know.

I have finally located my g-g grandfather, Samuel Campbell. Samuel was married to Ann and they were the parents of my great grandfather, Andrew Campbell and a number of other children. They lived in Jo Daviess County, Irish Hollow Precinct, Illinois, near Galena. We had always thought Campbells were from Scotland. In the census records of 1850, it shows Samuel at 34 years old and born in Ireland. In some follow-up research we have done, have found that there were some Scots in northern Ireland, in Ulster. We are looking for any additional information about the Campbells in Ireland. Also information about the Irish-born Campbells in Jo Daviess County. It would be fun to be able to trace my ancesters back to Ireland. Thank you. Paul Campbell and Cathie Bishop, Sioux City, Iowa.
Hello,
Would anyone researching their Campbell ancestry have come across a Francis

Hi there!
I seem to be stuck at 1791 with finding my Campbell ancestors. Can anyone out there help me? James Campbell died January 1791 in Russell Co (now Lee Co) VA and was married
to Catherine. His decendents settled in middle Tennessee and are still there today.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Cousins, looking for some good Wedding Toasts. My son is getting married
next month and I would like something appropriate for the toasts.
Thanks,
Lawrence W. Campbell
Hello Campbells
More info on John Campbell. In the early 1800's John Campbell arrived
in Jackson county Ala. from Virginia where he was born around 1779. On
May 17, 1819 he married Aney Webster in Madison County in the Alabama
Territory and moved to Tennessee shortly thereafter.
John and Aney had 8 children that we know of: John R. born in 1820,
Willis Mclemore in 1823, George Lafayette in 1825, sarah J. in 1831,
Stephen in 1832, Margaret in 1833, Emaline in 1836,and Martha in 1838.
By 1850 only his four daughters were living with John in Jackson County
and Aney is not listed. She probably had died by that time.
On July 2, 1840 John and Aney purchased 109 acres of land in Jackson
County from Samuel Hughs for $584,22. Thier sons John, Willis, and
George purchased three parcels of land totaling 159.13 acres from Alfred
Johnson on August 3, 1845.
George, 41 and his brother, Willis, age 43 served in the Civil War,
Confederate Army, Company I, Fristoe's Regiment, Missouri Cavalry. They
both enlisted in Oregon County, Missouri but belonged to the Army of the
Northern Sub-District of Arkansas.
John R. Campbell married Elender and their children were: William (b
1842), Sarah (b 1843), James (b 1845), John F. (b 1847), Milton (b
1849), and Mary (b 1850).
George Lafayette Campbell, 5'6", with blue eyes and light hair, married
Sarah Beason in about 1845 in Alabama and by 1860 they and nine of their
children are listed in the census of Oregon County, Missouri: John (b
1847, William (b1848), James F. and Mary (b 1850), Willis (b 1852), Aney
(1854), Margaret (b 1857), Sarah (b 1858), and George (b 1859). After
George's death in January 1899 and burial at Elm Store, Arkansas, Sarah
moved to live with her daughter, Catherine, and died there in 1908-1910.
Willis Mclemore Campbell, 5'7", with blue eyes and dark hair, and Mary
Jane Simmons were married in Alabama and had 7known children: Sarah (b
1846), William (b 1848), Aney Ellender (b 1850), Martha (b 1852), Mary
(b 1856), Clementine (b 1859), and Alabama (b 1860). Willis also married
Anne J. Clark in 1885 in Oregon County, Mo.

Unfortunately, Hugh and William are probably very common in Campbells, as
is Alexander (my grandfather, ggrandfather and gggrandfather). My
grandfather had two brothers named Hugh (I assume one died in infancy.
Good hunting.

Here we go again with another John Campbell. I have limited information
but I;; give it a try. Looking fo info pertaining to:
John Campbell; married Mary Erwin, born 1862, Caledonia, Boone County,
Illinois; daughter of John Spears Erwin and Cynthia Depew. John and Mary
were married in 1875, probably in Boone County. Any help in identifying
this family will be greatly appreciated.
Best regards. Bob Flynn

Hi Judy and all
Your Campbells caught my eye because of the names William and Hugh.
My great grandpa was WILLIAM HUGH (Huey) CAMPBELL born November 16, 1839
in Jackson parish, LA. His mother was Sarah Campbell also listed as
being born in La. I do not know his fathers name or where they came
from before Louisiana. Sarah's other children are Ellen, Samuel,
Lofton, Lucretian and Frances. Does anyone connect to these names or
have a missing Campbell. I believe Sarahs husband might be William, but
it's just a hunch. Kathy
Barb,
I should have been more specific. Therefore, I offer additional
information:
John CAMPBELL b. 6 Feb 1769; d. 3 Jan 1839 in Monroe County, VA; m. Mary
"Polly" EARLY 5 Feb 1795 in Augusta County, VA. She was the daughter of
Elizabeth ALLISON and Daniel EARLY. Daniel fought in the Revolutionary
War on the PA line.
I know of two children for John CAMPBELL and Mary "Polly" EARLY:
1. E. CAMPBELL m. J.S. Unknown. He was living in New Castle, Botetourt
County, VA on 14 May 1839 which is the date on a letter he sent to his
uncle, Rev. Andrew EARLY.
2. Mary W. "Polly" CAMPBELL b. 1814; m. George W. BLAND. They resided
in Monroe County, VA. My database shows they had eight children.

From where in VA did your John CAMPBELL hail? My gr gr gr grandmother
was Rebecca CAMPBELL, d/o of Alexander CAMPBELL. At the time of her
marriage to Samuel EARLY in Augusta County, VA on 12 Jul 1804, her
father was deceased and her marriage bond was signed by her brother,
John CAMPBELL.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

I would like to correspond with anyone interested in the WILLIAM
CAMPBELL described below.
According to his Rev. War pension application, WILLIAM CAMPBELL was
born about 1753 and enlisted at Germantown as a private in Capt.
Michael Rudolph's company of light infantry in Col. Henry Lee's
Continental Regiment (Light Horse Harry Lee). He served in this
regiment for over four and one-half years and was in the battles of
Guilford Court House, NC and Eutaw Springs, SC.
He purchased land in Ohio Co., KY in 1804 and lived in that county for
the next forty years. He applied for his Rev. War pension in 1818 &
1820. He moved with his son-in-law, ASA ALLEN, to Illinois in the
1840's and died there before 1846. He must have lived in New Jersey
shortly after the Rev. War., because that is where his son, ANDREW
CAMPBELL was born in 1785.
An incomplete list of William Campbell's children includes:
[1] ANDREW CAMPBELL, b. 1785 in NJ, d. 1855 in Scott Co., IN, md/1:
Mary .?., md/2: Katherine Loney.
[2] ABIGAIL CAMPBELL, b. 1800 in VA, d. 1852 in Pike Co., IL, md: ASA
ALLEN in 1822 in Ohio Co., KY.
[3] SARAH CAMPBELL, b. 1791, d, 1833 in Ohio Co., KY, md: FELIX
BARNETT in 1815 in Ohio Co., KY.
[4] ELIZABETH CAMPBELL, b. 1810c, KY, d. 1844 in Pike Co., IL,
single.
[5] Perhaps: SOPHIA CAMPBELL, b. 1792, d. Taney Co., MO, md: LEVI
WOOLEY in 1814 in Ohio Co., KY
