In searching for my ggg grandparents in Scotland in the Old Parish
Register CD at the FHC I found potential hits with the names,
respectively of Kilcalmonnel and Kilberry, Argyll and Glassary, Argyll.
Then another with, Inverness, Inverness
Are these places near to each other? Are they in the vicinity of
Inverary, Argyll? That is the name I found in family stories.

Samuel Y. CAMPBELL lived in Abington, VA., in 1812, 1813 and 1814,
and there, by his 1st marriage, became connected with the Holston
CAMPBELL's, whose ancestor, John CAMPBELL; a scotsman, moved 1st to
Ireland, and then to Phila. PA., in 1726. Samuel Y. CAMPBELL died at
Upland, DEL. Mar. 28, 1856. His wife died Jan. 24, 1876.
You wish to know something of William CAMPBELL, father of Capt.
Samuel CAMPBELL. (my note.... I am assuming this is referring to the
Holston CAMPBELL's)
I learn from the sons of Samuel Campbell that their grandfather
lived in Prince Edward Co., VA. Capt Samuel CAMPBELL has been dead 17
or 20 years. (my note.... this was publ. 1911) He left numerous
wealthy and respectable relations. James HAGAN has 5 or 6 brothers
who resided in the southern part of the State in 1848.
The 1st of the Bedford Co. family of CAMPBELLs, known to me, was
Thomas CAMPBELL; his sons, William and Robert., inherited a good
estate from him. Col. William CAMPBELL had for a great many yrs. been
in public life, and died a member of the State Senate of VA. in the
yr. 1844 or 1845, leaving no children, and bequeathing his whole
estate to his brother, Robert CAMPBELL. Mr. Robt. CAMPBELL is an
excellent farmer, a man of good sense and exceptional character. He
has been much in public life as a member of the House of Delegates,
and, having a lg. estate, is occupied very much in it;s management.
He has a lg. family of children settled in Bedford Co. all of whom
are amongst our best citizens; one of his sons, a lawyer, is regarded
as a young man of very high prominence; this is Henry CAMPBELL,
removed from Lynchburg, VA., to New York, N. Y.

Cowhandal: Sorry if you get this twice - I'm a little confused
on whether you belong to the list or not. In any case I have
some match with a string of Johns in that era but don't know what
state of county you are concerned with. Could you please supply?
Sorry if I was not paying attention to earlier messages but I
usually delete if not readily identifiable as mine or close by.

Wayne, According to the book we have on all the known descendents of
James (1791) and Sophia Downing, the only James D. was born in 1965 and
last known address was Concord, CA. All the children of James(1791) and
Sophia Downing were born in either Barren County, KY or Cole County, MO
(central MO.; Jasper Co. is in the extreme SW of the state) James &
Sophias children were:
Benjamine (1814 - 1865) m. Catherine Short 1838
Jane (1815 - 1900) m. John Glover
Abraham (1818 - 1893) m. Seny Roark 1840 & Rebecca Irwin 1880
James (1820 - 1895) m. Mary "Polly" Enloe 1843

The three oldest sisters of James (1791) ended up in Texas while brother

So, it doesn't seem to be an answer to your inquiry but who knows, maybe
someone out there will see a connection here that could help you too.
Good Luck! Rob
