This is rather difficult reading (with few commas or periods), but
discusses the sending of fifteen men to New England who were involved in
the unsuccessful rising of Archibald, ninth Earl of Argyll against James II
and VII in the spring of 1685. The Earl was finally captured and beheaded
on the 30th of June, 1685 and the men listed below sent to New England.
Deportations from Scotland in 1685
The following is transcribed from a photostat supplied by the Scottish
Record Office, H.M. Register House, Edinburgh: Forasmuch as there being
ane address made to the Lords of his Majesties privy Councill, by William
Arbuckles merchant in Glasgow Desyreing that In regaird he hath a ship now
lying in the road of Leith bounding for his Majesties plantations in New
England He might be allowed to have some of those prisoners who wer lately
taken as being engadged with the late Earl of Argyle upon caution to
transport them in maner underwritten The Lords of Councill upon
consideration of the foresaid address Doe hereby give and grant the persons
underwritten being in number fiftein to the said William Arbuckles
supplicant viz: Duncan Mcviccar John Thomsone Murdoch Mcisack Donald
Thomson John Clerk & John Clerk Archbald McUrich Daniel Ker Neil Mchatton
Donald Mcviccar Angus Mciver Angus McKellor Duncan Mccallum Archbald Mcadam
and Johm Mcmillan all prisoners under the laigh parliment hall. In
regaird the said William Arbuckles hath found sufficient caution. acted in
the books of privy Councill. to transport the forsaids persones and each
of them to his Majesties plantations in new England and report a certificat
or there landing under the hand of the governor of the place where they
shall land there to his Majesties privy Councill And that under the
penalty of One thousand Merks Scots money in caice the said certificate be
not reported betwist and {sic} the ninth day of July next to come in the
year of God 1686......
I also mentions a Reverand David Simson or Simpson, minister of Southend,
Kintyre who also emigated to New Jersey where he died in 1695. His son
David succeeded him at Southend. Lieutenants Archibald Campbell of Askomill
and Hugh Campbell, of the 71st (Fraser's) Highlanders, who were prisoners
of war in Massachusetts in 1776-1777, were grandsons of the Reverend David
Simson, Jr.

Hi, Folks,
The message that "lilladie8" sent to our list looks a lot like a spam; I
was so convinced that it was a spam that I almost deleted it without
reading, which is what I recommend you do with any spam message. (For
those of you who don't know what spam is, it's Unsolicited Commercial
Email, aka junk email.) However, when I saw that it had come through the
list, I thought I'd better investigate, as only subscribers can post.
Please do NOT send stuff like this to the list. Just make a reference to
it, and provide a link to it.
BTW, the AOL Instant Messager comes bundled with Netscape Communicator,
and pops right up when you first run the program. Quite annoying not to
be asked if I want it to run.

Hello List members,
I thought the following was important enough to send to all of you even
thought it may not be directly related to the list I am sending it to. I hope
it's helpful to someone, here it is.

This was posted on another list. I have posted it here FYI. I would
suggest that those of you who belong to other groups might pass it on. I
would be devastated if I missed something like this regarding one of my
ancestors.

I don't know how to get this posted nation-wide. But, I would like to
see
this original document returned to a member of the original family. My
mother-in-law bought a picture frame at an estate sale in Tucson, AZ.
When
she took the picture out and removed the cardboard from behind it, a very
delicate, old, and yellowed piece of paper fell out. This is a summary
of
what was written and readable on the paper:
Civil War Discharge Paper
For: Mark CROSBY, Jr.
Private, Company B, 16th Regiment Union Army
From Yarmouth, Massachussetts
Entered service in 1860 and left service 1864
Marked Paid and signed by B. McCONNELL
Description:
5 ft. 3 inches, gray eyes, dark curly hair.
He was a clerk in the Union Army.
Entered in the Auditors records on July 26, 1870
This document bears the Union Crest.
Help me post this for others to read. If you know someone who
might be interested in this document, please E-Mail a reply to
my inquiry. A life is not lost when it is known to future
generations. Help me keep Mark CROSBY, Jr. alive for his
family.
Forward this message to anywhere you think might help.

She gave his address to contact by anyone interested. I did, and no

title and publisher?
Thanks,

Would appreciate hearing from someone working on these lines & I will
exchange information. Linda
I can't find any information on my CAMPBELL line. I would like to prove that
MARY CAMPBELL b 1811 in Co.Down, Ireland was the daughter of HUGH CAMPBELL
and ELIZABETH FINLEY. They were said to have about ten children. I can
prove one JAMES CAMPBELL b 29 June 1808 in Co.Down. I am sure that MARY was
his sister, because they both came to Canada and then to Genessee Co., NY
were James was married to ANN CASH and MARY to HIRAM WOLCOTT. I also think
that two of their siblings, were HUGH and WILLIAM CAMPBELL. Does anyone
have any ideas for me?
I have a Campbell in my family tree that I am looking for information on. Her
name is Eliza Campbell born around 1866. She married George W. Louyinger.
They had 8 children (2 of which were deceased by 1903). They were from Mercer
County, NJ. In 1920, Eliza was listed in the census as widowed and living
with 2 of her children (Mildred-24y; Warren-16y) in Trenton, NJ. I know they
also had a daughter named Mary born in 1886. Most likely the delivering
doctor of all Eliza's children was George E. Litus of Hightstown. If any of
this sounds familiar to anyone I'd love to hear from you. Thanks so much.
