Seeking information on a JAMES CAMPBELL born in Scotland who came to the
VA\Kty area sometime around 1790. He had son Hugh in 1796 and possibly other
sons, Thomas, William & James Jr. They had all apparently moved to Wilson
County, TN by 1830s, in the area of Watertown. Hugh married Sarah Hearn in
1816.
Any help appreciated.

I have the sort of the same problem....I keep thinking some of the Texas
Campbells will recognize this family and I will get a break. I am
looking for the family of Mary Jane CAMPBELL. She was, again according
to gossip, disowned by her family for marrying below her station. The
man she married my have been a housekeeper's son...and the housekeeper
may have come over from Ireland.
Mary Jane Campbell had at least 4 siblings, Sadie, Bill, Jim and Liza.
These sound like nicknames for William, James and Elizabeth??? Mary
Jane was born in Texas about 1860 or so. The man she married was James
J.B. Downing.

I am researching my Campbell ancesters from Ireland. Alice Campbell was
born in 1808 - I suspect somewhere in County Down or County Armagh,
Ireland. She married Thomas Crown approx. 1832. The family gossip is
that Alice was disowned by her family for marrying below her class.
They had 6 children as indicated below, some of which we know were born
in Newry, County Down:
Jane b. 1834 d. Feb.13/1908
Sarah Matilda b. 1936 d. Feb.27/1898
Julia Ann b. 1938 d. Sept 6/1912
Thomas b. Oct.12/1840 d. Sept. 6/1915
James b. 1842 d. 1847 approx.
Elizabeth Alice b. Oct. 9/1844 d. June 20/1917
They immigrated to Canada in 1846. John Crown died at sea on the
journey leaving Alice with the 6 children to settle in the new world.
Alice Campbell died near Lindsay, Ontario Aug.12,1888.
I am particularly interested in brothers, sisters and parents living in
county Down or County Armagh around 1845. Any assistance or leads would
be appreciated.

Actually, I am Gail Barham <barham(a)flash.net>and I am researching the
Orr-Campbell families.
Diane Smith<dianes(a)halcyon.com> is doing research in Penn. also and may be
doing the kidlink thing since I don't know what you're talking about.
Thanks for the offer of doing research for me in Washington Cty. Our group
left Franklin County in about 1853 and settled in western Illinios; I don't
believe they spent time in Washington Cty. PA, but I could be mistaken.
However, if Isabel Orr's people lived there, she might be listed somewhere,
possibly in a baptism after her 11 Dec 1780 birthdate. I don't know for
certain that she was Presbyterian herself, but the Campbells were. It
could be that if her people lived in Wash. Cty., she and John Campbell
would have been married there 8 Sept 1800, and not necessarily in a
Presbyterian Church. Chances are that if the Orrs were Scottish, they
probably were Presby. too. My grandfather Campbell had some animosity
towards Catholics, and I guess this came from his upbringing. This leads
me to believe that my Campbell family were all staunch Presbyterians and
this animosity came from "The old country", which could have been Scotland,
but most probably Ireland. Anyway, if you run across Orrs there, please
keep an eye open for Isabel! Many thanks.
This is probably much more than you want to know about the Campbell-Orr
family, but if you do find a connection, that would be wonderful.
Thanks.

I am looking for my roots. My Grandfather's name is LeMont Campbell, as
far as Iknow he was from Uniontown. His father's name is William Campbell.
I'm going to assume that he was at some time also in Uniontown,Pa. As of yet
I've not been able to find out what William's wife name is. I got most of
the info that I have from funneral directors from my hometown, where LeMont
and Myrtle Campbell lived out the remaining years. LeMont was born in 1875
and died on August 16, 1955.
That is where the trail ends. Any information that anyone may have that
may accest me with my search into my ancestry would be much appreciated.
Thank
you,
James

Has anyone out there in Campbell land seen my Cyrus? He, (Cyrus Campbell)
told me he was "Born in Scotland" on October 27, 1788. I first find him as
an orphan in Cabarrus County, NC in 1804. Court records state his father was
named Andrew Campbell (Cambel). Family history says he came to America in
1798 with two brothers, via Philadelphia. He was apprenticed to Moses Wiley
and in 1812 married Hannah Wiley, sister of Moses. There was some sort of
connection with a James Campbell of Mecklenburg and Cabarrus counties,
through land transactions. Their first born was Isaac Wiley Campbell in NC
in 1814. Cyrus and Hannah moved to TN circa 1818, or so, where they had
three children: James Monroe Campbell, Margaret Paradine Campbell and
Leander Campbell. Cyrus obtained 100 acres of land from TN by grant in
1824/25. Thereafter they moved to Jackson/Franklin/Williamson counties in
Illinois. They had four more children in IL: Emily Campbell, Oliver Gains
Campbell, Marion Curtis Campbell and Clementine Cinderella Campbell.Cyrus
died 1845 at Marion, IL.
The 14 years between birth in Scotland and court records in NC have
eluded me, although I have learned much Scottish history as a result of this
search. I NEED HELP. Thanks to all. Roger L. Campbell, 19 East Lake Estates,
