I am searching for ancestors of Thomas and Rosetta (Mays) Campbell and James
and Vera (Campbell) Angus, Jr. The lines come from the Piney River area of
Amherst County. They are my great-grandparents.
Woodrowmb <Woodrowmb(a)aol.com>
Nine generations back, along my father's, father's line, was Jacob Moore. My family history relates that Jacob was probably born in Argyleshire, Scotland, of lowland (Saxon) stock in about 1665.
As a clansman of Archibald, 9th Earl of Argyle (The MacCalain MORE), he was involved in the Earl's rebellion and treason. The Earl's people, including Jacob, were banished, (sold to the London Company which was "planting" Ulster).
Jacob Moore married about the time of the exedus. His wife's name is not known. Their son, William Moore, was an infant at the time of the celebrated siege of Londonderry in 1690 and was barely saved from death by exposure and starvation. William and Jacob came the Delaware soon after. Then William went to Ohio (1690 +/-).
I have them traced them from there. Need enlargment of siblings. Want more info re: Scotland.

Nine generations back, along my father's, father's line, there was one Jacob Moore. The information in my family history relates that Jacob Moore was probably born in Argyleshire, Scotland, of lowland (Saxon) stock in about 1665.
As a clansman of Archibald, 9th Earl of Argyle (The MacCalain MORE), he was naturally involved in the Earl's rebellion and treason. The Earl's people, including Jacob Moore, were banished, (sold to the London Company which was "planting" Ulster).
Jacob Moore probably married about the time of the exedus. His wife's name is not known. Their son, William Moore, was an infant at the time of the celebrated siege of Londonderry in 1690 and was barely saved from death by exposure and starvation. William and possibly Jacob came the Delaware soon after.
I can trace them from them. Where do they come from and how can I find more information. Do I belong within the Clan Campbell?
CAMPBELL entries from the 1851 census of Barony, Glasgow,
Lanarkshire, Scotland, the portion to be found on film #0833323 on the
Family History Library Catalog of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints. This covered only a few streets, with houses containing many
families. Other parts of the Barony census would be on other films I'm sure.
This is just one you will not have to check!
Being a very large inner city parish the Campbells had come from
many different counties, as well as Ireland. Often a family moved into the
city area for some years before migrating overseas. Or a single man moved to
Glasgow, acquired a wife there who was born in a different county and later
migrated. Even if you know the birthplace of your ancestor it is useful to
check such a place as Barony or Govan, Glasgow.
While going through it I took down surnames I am researching,
including Anderson, Baxter, Brown (some), Campbell, Cochrane, Dalglish,
Fraser, Hunter(some), Hutchinson, Johnston/e (some),Laing, McAlpin, McLeod,
McNamara, McTaggart, Queen, Roulston, Simpson, Struthers,Webster,
Williamson, and Yuille.
If you are interested in these names of Barony 1851 I will send them
to the Lanark list eventually but be patient as I have not typed them yet!
Good luck, Valerie Anderson andyvt(a)netlink.com.au
******************
These are all the CAMPBELL entries with the exception of a few
young single males born in "Ireland" not living with relatives, which I
considered too hard to positively identify.
All surnamed Campbell unless noted in capital letters, one
enumerator listed them all as "Camble". Groups are husband, wife and
children unless noted. Families arranged alphabetically by Head of Campbell
household's Christian name, or Campbell boarder's Christian name. Census
addresses available on request. Also details of the lodging family. If you
require any more information (neighbours, etc) I suggest you hire the film.

For Roger Fancher (whoever and wherever you are):
According to Harry Liggett (see message copied below), you were (as of
06/16/97) looking for a "Georgia Campbell," and he's found a Georgia M.
Campbell" in Latrobe, PA. All I know about your inquiry is contained in
Harry's message. I do NOT know what you originally asked, your reasons
for looking for Georgia Campbell, or the time and place in which you
believe she exists or existed.
But I cannot resist chiming in to say that my MOTHER (b.1901 in Chicago,
d.1991 in Indianapolis) was Georgia May Campbell. If you have any
reason to believe that this is the Georgia Campbell you were looking
for, please contact me.

Friends,
>From the Guardian Bonds of Washington County, VA (c1826): David
CAMPBELL named guardian of Dorcas BRADY and Josiah BRADY, orphans of
Josiah BRADY, deceased. Bood, $200. Surety, Edward Campbell.
Does anyone have the connection of this David CAMPBELL and these BRADY

likely some familial link between these persons. Was this the David
CAMPBELL who later became Govenor of Virginia?

My maternal grandfather was John Blaine Gant son of Samuel C. Gant of Ohio,
Son of Jesse Gant and Margaret Campbell. I am interested in the females of
the family and tried to find some record of Margaret Campbell (her family),
but nothing has turned up. I know she and Jesse were married Nov. 20, 1827
from a family Bible. I know she was born June 15, 1805, I just don't know
where either her birth or her marriage occurred. If anyone has any
knowledge of this I would appreciate hearing from you.
Thanks,

Hi Chris,
I'm so glad that you wrote, I tried to subscribe to the Campbell list so
that I could find those folks...I guess I didn't use the right formula, it
bounced. This will be better.

If the names:
Jacob Campbell, b: 1800 and wife Elizabeth, b: 1802, mean anything to
anyone, I found a very large, old family bible on Sunday in Adel, Ga. It
listed birth and death dates very clearly, quite a large family.
Some of the names were:
Jacob CAMPBELL, b: 11 Feb 1800- d: 15 Mar 1881
Elizabeth CAMPBELL, 1802=1885
Elizabeth Ann 1822-1894
Sally Maria 1824
Ralph 1826-1859
Jacob Struble 1828
Daniel 1830
Moses J. 1832
George 1854
Catherine 1836-1836
Charels Henry 1838
Abraham Thomas 1840
Mary Jane 1843
William Burton 1846
surnames CARNEY and CHANDLER appear as wives.
The address of the Antique shop:
Adel Antique Mall
Rt. 3, Box 226
Adel, Ga. 31620
phone: 912-896-8226 mention that the bible is in back booth #102, "Temple
Treasures" I just now noticed that the business card says they have
internet access, but doesn't give the address.
The book itself was in very, very bad condition, but the lists were
excellent. It was pricey at $65.00, but maybe they will negotiate. There
were at least 3 handwritten lists, maybe 4, very legible.
The fact that it was in GA doesn't necessarily mean that the family was
from there. I was told that the dealer who owned it had found it at an
auction.
