OK, I've had a cup of tea and the mental mists of morning have risen.
I can now even spell "Peshtigo". Sorry for any cofusion that caused.
The two obits of cousin Henry Campbell, Jr. were essentially the same,
except for the nice picture in the Eagle Herald.
I got home late last night from a wonderful whirlwind trip to Tioga.
Met some very hospitable people at a Campbell-Elliot Reunion in
Roseville, PA.
Met Cousin Blain Miller at the Nelson, P.O. Maybe that's the way to
find the cousins - hang out at the Nelson Post Office and figure there's
a good chance that whoever shows up is a relative.
Stopped in at Phebe CAMPBELL Hoyt and Inez HOYT Boller's "Rose Lawn
Farm". Met the recent owner, Roy Rice, Jr. who remembered my name and
surprised me by asking if I still lived in Binghamton. Also the new
owner, who was anxious to hear about the history of the place and wanted
old photos, which I will send him. It's nice to see it getting fixed up
--- "rebuilt" is probably more like it.
Roy kindly took me to the Deats Burial Ground, north east of Nelson
along Steuben Co.'s Tuscarora Twp. I took notes, but didn't find any
matching names.
One of the successful parts of my stop at the Tioga Co. Hist. Soc. in
Wellsboro, was the answer I had long been searching - the parents of
Zeno Clark Kimball, father of CCC letter writer, Faith Jean KIMBALL
Black. They had a large book, whith a full title that takes up most of
a page, "History or the Kimball Family in America, From 1634 - 1893 ..."
You would think "Zeno" would be easy to find, but he usually went by
'Z. Clark Kinball' or just 'Clark Kimball'. Anyway, the quest is over,
pp. 971 and 972 give his birth as Ded. 24, 1872 in Osceola, PAl; and his
parents as Civil War veteran Leonard Leverne Kimball, b. 5/31/1838 in
Osceola, and Julia A. Kimball, b. 11/1/1848 in Abbyfeale, Limerick,
Ireland. Her birth name is unknown. She was "Kimball" because of an
adoption by Leonard's uncle, also named Leonard Kimball. The book
covers a previous 9 generations of Kimballs.
