(Don't know why a blank message was forwarded the first time. On my
end, the "Sent" message looked fine.)
We have sometimes done cemetery tours in conjunction with our Campbell
Reunions. I remember that we've done the Nelson Cem. and
Osceola/Fairview Cem. in the past in the past. If the weather permits,
I'd like to have one ready for the later afternoon on Saturday, Aug. 9.
If there is enough interest, we could consider another one on Friday or
Sunday for the "out of towners". Some come a long way, so I'd like to
have as much available for them as possible.
In addition -- or instead - I was thinking of making up a list for each
of the most likely cemeteries and people could then pick and choose and
go on their own, or in small groups, wherever the spirit moves them.
One of our out of state cousins mentioned working up a list from her
database -- perhaps we can merge our extract files and make an even
better list.
I took a rough, first cut, to see where the data leads. One of my
statistics teachers used to say "listen to the data". The following
figures are only very rough guieds, and many warnings are in order.
1. I do not know about all our cousins, I'm still locating new ones at a
surprising and gratifying rate.
2. I do not know where most of the Campbell, Lugg and Blackwell
descendants are buried.
3. The figured I generated include not only "honest to goodness"
descendants, they also include (when I know of them) their spouses, the
spouses' parents, plus step-children and spouses other spouses, which
some of you may not be interested in.
4. The figures include not only descendants of the immigrant Joseph and
Mary Harper Campbell, but also those of the Enoch Blackwell b. abt 1764
in Gloucestershire (and those of his immigrant siblings) as well as
descendants of his 2nd wife, Sarah LUGG Clinch Blackwell Campbell and
her brother, Charles Byron Lugg. Of course there's a lot of overlap,
but some of you are not interested in the Lugg or Blackwell lines.
5. Many of you may know about many burials that I'm not aware what
cemetery that particular relative is buried in, so, over time, we can
pool our knowledge and some of my 1st counts will go way up as you share
your knowledge with the rest of us.
6. Some cemeteries are known by several names, so you may have a
different name than the one I show here. And, the some cemetery names
are "popular", so it can be confusing figuring which "Woodlawn Cem"
someone is in.
Keeping all those caveats in mind, here's my first attempt at tabulating
burials. I will only include in this message those counties that
surround Nelson and therefore someone might want to visit coming or
going. Some of the numbers may look way too low, if so, let's compare
notes and improve the figures.
Remember, the counts are for those who I believe are either "our"
Campbells, Luggs or Blackwells. No offense intended, but I'm here
including all the Hazletts as Campbell descendants.

Again, please remember these numbers may change a lot as the data
grows. Also, there will be people who are important to you who do not
meet the criteria I am using. For example, you may be interested in ALL
the Tubbs in the area, not just the ones who are Campbell Cousins. Or,
you may consider the connection to some of the people I have included as
too remote for your interests (i.e. children by spouses other marriages)
or descendants of Enoch Blackwell's siblings.
The list I am putting together, even if done perfectly, will only be a
list of candidates for your interests. It will always have stuff that
will be "chaff" when compared to your personal interest -- as well as
omitting others of personal interest to you.
To keep this message small, I will place the tabulation of neighboring
counties in (an)other e-mail message. As imperfect as it is, I still
found it an informative exercise and hope some of you will too.
