Pat Eierman kindly sent me a copy of an old news clipping of the
wedding of two Campbell Cousins, Treva Clarissa Hooker (1892 - 1962)
marrying her 3rd cousin, John H. Hazlett (1891 - 1982). Some of you,
especially those in Chemung Co., may remember them. I knew them as
long as I can remember.
Pat is an Oakden, and I believe is related to Doretta Mae Oakden (1895 -
1979), wife of George Gersham Hazlett (1891 - 1966).
It's a great clipping with many family members named. It's undated and
we don't know which paper it appeared in (it appears to be an Elmira
paper), but the wedding had to have occurred in 1915. Thanks so much Pat.
Treva was a dau. of Wm. E. Hooker (1858 - 1925) and Stella Ann Loop
(1863 - 1933), dau. of James. Wm. Loop (1842 - 1912) and Maria B.
Campbell (1842 - 1873), dau. of Jos. Campbell (1793 -1864) and Ann
Clinch (1804 - 1872).
"Jack" was a son of Eula M. Taylor (1865 - 1931) and Frank R. Hazlett
(1856 - 1934), son of Lucy Dunham (1834 - 1902) and John Hazlett, Jr.
(1823 - 1892), son of John Hazlett (abt 1787 - 1849) and Jane Campbell
(1792 - 1832).
Here we go:
' HOOKER --- HAZLETT
The home of Mrs. Stella Wilbur of Nelson, Pa., was the scene of a
very pretty wedding at high noon, Wednesday, December 29, when her
daughter Miss Treva Hooker was united in marriage to John H. Hazlett of
Elmira Heights. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. John McCahan
White, of Galeton, Pa., former preacher of the Presbyterian Church of
Nelson, under a bower of evergreens and spruce boughs, the ring ceremony
being used. "O, Promise Me," was sung by Edward Monroe of Elmira
Heights, a cousin of the groom, just before the wedding ceremony. The
bridal party entered the parlor as the wedding march by Lohengrin was
being played by Miss Ruth Campbell, a cousin of the bride, who also
softly rendered the "Flower Song" during the ceremony. The bride was
gowned in white chiffon over accordion pleated silk with silk puffing,
and a tulle cap and carried white bridal roses.
After the ceremony a four course dinner was served by caterer Owlett
of Knoxville, Pa. The Misses Agnes Adams, Frances Aldrich, Ellen Tubbs
and Isabel Hoyt served at the tables which were beautifully decorated
with center pieces of pink carnations. Mr. and Mrs. Hazlett left on the
5 o'clock train on the New York Central for a trip which will include a
visit to Scranton with Mrs. Hazlett's roommate in college, who was
unable to attend the wedding. The bride's travelling [sic] gown was
dark green cloth trimmed with black fur, with green velvet toque to
match. On their return to the Heights they will take up residence at
239 Oakwood avenue, in the Utrich residence.
The bride is a well known young lady of Nelson, being a graduate of
the Mansfield Normal School and is also a niece of Dr. Ross Loop of
Elmira. She possesses a large circle of friends both in her home town
and Elmira, and will be welcomed to Elmira Heights. The groom, who is
the son of F. R. Hazlett, is one of the Heights most prominent young
business men and of excellent character and fine habits. The wedding
