Many of you may not be surprised to hear that I'm not as smart as I
thought I was. I jumped to a conclusion about the cause of the problem
John Dunham reported. There were 5 cases where that change was made
during uploading to RootsWeb with the death date blank -- so my theory
appeared plausible. But, there were many more instance where the death
date was blank and "DECEASED' was not changed to 'LIVING'. So it's
not
as simple as I at first thought.
I changed the records for the 5 records -- so every thing should be fine
for now. I'll have to do some more testing to see what the cause really is.
One additional change. Many records had no first name. I changed those
to have as their first name 'FNU', which stands for First Name Unknown.
Or, for a few infants, to 'UNNAMED'. You should see June 18th (or
later) as the date of our CaPaNe database when you next look at it.
Remember, it can take up to 24 hours for RootsWeb's indexes to be fully
rebuilt after a database upload.
And, for any non-techies in the audience, 'upload' is similar to
'download'. But the data flows in the opposite direction - from a PC
instead of to a PC..
