Volunteers are needed to help plan and hold Campbell Reunion 2003.
If you can't come, but would lke to support the reunion, please consider making
a donation towards our expenses, which add up - the pavillion, mailing invitations,
and some food and drink. If you can't come, but would like to contribute, please
let me know, and I'll forward our treasurer's address to you.
People who couldn't come to the old ones sent letters or regret that the secretary
read, maybe you would like to do that.
If you hope to come, there are plenty of things you can do to help plan and/or
do at the event - program, food, registration, greeting, clean-up.
In the past we've had trips to local cemeteries in Nelson and Osceola. Perhaps
some of you are familiar with, and could lead a group to these cemeteries, or
those in Lawrenceville, Knoxville, Elkland, Farmington or Middleburey Twps.
At the old reunions there was a wide variety of recitations, readings, and instrumental
and vocal music. At our last reunion, Cousin Marylyn Adams played keyboard
and Owlett desc. Gene Sprague joined in with his trumpet for duets. Gene had
often played with Cousin Philip P. Young, which added a nice "note". And
Bonnie
(Lugg) Kyofski helped us sing the Campbell Reunion Song. Marylyn probably won't
be at this one, so we have to make new plans (I started to say 'arrangements')
for any music we want this year.
Most of the time is spent getting acquainted and reacquainted, eating, and chatting,
but there will be Remarks. Usually there are some impromptu remarks plus some
planned comments. Perhaps you have an old family letter of poem you would like
to share.
A portable VCR player would be helpful. I have some video tapes of Scotland
- professional, not homemade, some people would enjoy.
Perhaps we want a room at the hotel in Painted Post, where we could congregate
Sat. night and display photos and memorabelia - especially if the afternoon
is rainy.
In 2000 & 2001, people who are local brought covered dishes, and those out-of-area,
have chipped in extra to cover the cost of beverages and some meat dishes (or
cold cut trays). We'll probably need folks to bring big coffee pots, get paper
plates & cups, etc.
We haven't had may kids in the past, but maybe this time we'll need activities
for kids.
Think of what you would like to have happen and how you could help.
Even if you can't come or help financially, write to me directly (off-list)
with things about other reunions you've been to -- what was done well and we
can learn from -- what was done poorly and we can learn from. Ideas and suggestions
are welcome. I've been to Owlett and Ryon reunions, and read the minutes of
the old Campbell ones, but many of you have been to other reunions and know
what you did and didn't like.
We'll organize ourselves to be in a few, small committes. Volunteer and don't
leave all the work to the same folks every time. What's the old saying -- The
more you put into it, the more you get out of it? Make it a success!
Hope to see you in Sept., but if not, hope to hear suggestions from you.
