Option 1 would be for someone else to take over the job of admin for
this mail list. The admin doesn't need to have answers to people's
questions. He or she just needs to be willing to learn how to be
RootsWeb admin. learning is a piece of cake --- there's very little to
learn, and that part's easy. People on this list are well behaved, so
the admin doesn't have to warn people about being rude or insulting.
Occasionally someone changes e-mail addresses and needs some assistance
in deleting their old one or adding their new one. But that doesn't
happen often. So, it's mostly a matter of dealing with all the spam.
It's only been a problem the last month or so --- much more spam than on
my LaMarche or Hazlett mail lists combined. Deleting the spam is easy,
it's just time consuming and I'm finding it a nuisance and distraction.
And it's possible that
ancestry.com will come up with spam filters which
will eliminate of at least significantly reduce the problem.
One of the advantages of posting to this mail list is that anyone can
search RootsWeb's archives for the posts and their replies. But if no
one is posting ...
Option 2. If others beside Betty enjoy the posts, one alternative to
this mail list is for me to terminate it and start a blog in it's place.
Anyone now on the list (or others) could subscribe [for free] and read
the posts and I could set it up so that readers could comment on my
posts. And of course, someone could use the "comment" facility to start
new conversations. Our Facebook Group members do that all the time. They
don;t have much excuse, because on Facebook it's as easy to do "Write
post" as it is to "Comment". If I created a blog, and someone wanted to
Post rather than Comment, I could grant them that authority, but there's
a learning curve for creating posts on a blog.
If I set it up as a blog, most of the things I'm now posting to our
Facebook Group I probably would post to the blog instead, but I think I
can connect the two so that posts to the new Campbell genealogy blog
would show up on Facebook --- I'd rather not duplicate the work. But
there's a limit on how much storage is available for free. After I few
years, If I'm able to keep making posts we'd either have to find a way
to pay for additional storage, delete the older stuff, or find some
other places to store it.
Option 3. Discontinue this mail list and use RootsWeb's Campbell mail
list. We'd be small frogs in a big pond, and most of the posts on that
list would have nothing to do with us. You'd all get lots of mail, even
if as once day digests, and most of it would be for Campbells with no
known connection to us.
Option 4. Discontinue this mail list and instead use RootsWeb's or
GenForum's Message Boards for the Campbell surname and/or for Tioga Co,
PA. That way you don't get any mail unless someone responds to one of
your posts/queries/comments. And they're searchable.

Hi Bill,
I do enjoy the posts you make to the mail list, but I can certainly
understand that going through all the spam is no fun and takes time you
could put to better use. I respond sometimes, but not always if I don't
have something to say or am swamped.
If I have anything to say, I usually direct it to someone(s) directly by
email or by phone. I don't trust Facebook or social media in general.
If you discontinue the mail list I will certainly understand--but I know
how to contact you if I need to, so all is well.
I continue to be very busy working on all my family lines--which is
expanding all the time. Too bad we can't get a line on Joseph Campbell,
Sr. and Mary Harper's parentage in Scotland.
I appreciate all you do all the time in getting things on the Campbell
online Tree and the Campbell website. It is a goldmine of information, and
something that hopefully will live on forever.
