HI all---I think I need an update on good ole ARCHIE!!!! Thought he only had
two daughters-mary and Sally......Of course, with those HAZLETTS, each had a
SAM, SALLY, JANE, JOHN, and occasional ARCHIE....so I may be thinking the
wrong ARCHIBALD altogether.
Someone please clarify...Is it ARCHIBALD HAZLETT who married CYNTHIA
HAMMOND????
By the way, tonight I spoke for over an hour to my dad's cousin in
Albuquerque....Betty (Eliz) JEan Hazlett Ferris......She enlightened me on
much, whic occurred in her childhood (she was born in 1925).....She said that
in Elkland, Leonard Wood's mother was a CAMPBELL,,,,and everyone on our side
of the HAZLETT-CAMPBELLS pronounced the "P" in CAMPBELL, but across the
street the WOODS family,et al...never did....(I know she is telling the truth
cause we always pronounced the "P"--just like the little town out of
Erwin---called CAMPBELL--home of the famous "Polly-o" ricotta cheese.....
She thinks that the EdCoates, Sam Hazlett feud was merely a situation arising
out of the death of Ed Coates; first wife (my Brennan kin) Mate (probably
MAry Agnes) Brennan....
When she died suddenly, and had in their house at that time a marbletop table
and mirror which her real mother ---we think--a MARY FERRIS (Who died in
childbirth)--no relation to the one Betty Jean married!!!! had brought over
from IRELAND------Ed Coates was in no hurry to send back her things to that
side of the family.........Remember my g-grandfather Sam Hazlett was married
to her sister "Kate" (Catherine) Brennan.....Anyway---Sam marched over and
demanded---with "Kate" in the buckboard, or carriage or whatever---that he
bring the things to the door for them to carry home, as they were not his to
keep!
That is not the feud I was told about by BOB a while ago.....It was more in
regard to some
auction of horses or property....if anyone has any knowledge of that, please
send on the list...
These ancestors won't care if we "air our dirty laundry now!"
Thanks for the compliments, Bill, but I am such a novice in this search for
the whoe family story.....Every letter, reunion program, and story shared is
nice to have and learn more about the intertwining families of
Nelson-Elkland-Osceola area...
Thanks to everyone on the list.....and esp Rieta.....Didn't know she had such
neat things to share............See you this summer?
Marylyn
(MATE AND KATE......isn't that cute?!!) NOONE IN THIS CLAN NEED SAY ANYTHING
