By now I hope everyone has recovered from overdosing on tryptophan and
turkey left-overs.
One of the things I have to be thankful for is "discovering" a new -- at
least new to my database cousin and talking with her today. Actually a
whole bunch of new additions to our tree. Someone had told me that my
3rd cousin, Ruby E. Deats (1909 - 1995) had one husband, Walter Hunt,
and no children. So I had never questioned that, or done any research
about descendants of hers.
But last week, reading through old newspapers on-line, it became evident
that Ruby had and earlier husband, Floyd Lunger. And that Floyd had
been married twice and had a daughter Jane, who in turn had two children
(but no indication of their names or sex). The articles led me to think
that Ruby was the mother of Floyd's daughter. So I did more research,
wrote a letter to my "suspect", and today she called. Sure enough, she
is Ruby's daughter. Not only did I learn about her, her children, and
grandchildren, but also learned that Ruby had had an even earlier
husband and daughter by that marriage.
Not only did Jane supply many more names of relatives, but she hopes to
come to our next reunion.
It turns out that a number of people I've been in touch with knew of
Jane, including some who have come to our reunions -- but somehow she'd
stayed below my "radar screen". I wonder how many more "overlooked"
cousins there are, still waiting to be "discovered".
Our on-line tree, "Campbells of Nelson, PA & Related Luggs & Blackwells"
is up to the minute with all of this weeks research and today's
conversation. If you search thought the new entries, and key and click
fast enough, you can burn off the calories from that last piece of pie
you ate Thursday. Of course, as always, RootsWeb's privacy filters hide
most of the information about living people except their surname and
their sex when the data is uploaded to their web site.
I was interested to hear that Jane knew a now deceased relative of Ande
RICE Tubbs and mine, the late (non-Campbell) Lenore TUBBS Perry Hallinan
and Lenore's husbands.
