hi bill and happy holidays to you and your family!!!
Where is the updated tree?
It's at
http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=capane&I11.x=0&I11.y=0
If that doesn't work for you, go to
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com and
place the word 'capane' (without the quotes) in the box labeled
"Database', then press Enter or click on the "Go" button below.
That takes you to our tree, titled "Campbells of Nelson, PA & Related
Luggs & Blackwells". On that first screen, you will see a box labeled
"Enter surname OR surname, given to find". If you want to start with a
particular individual, enter last and first name, separated by a comma,
e.g. "horton, elisha" (again, without the quotes), then press Enter or
click on the List button. If you want to start by looking at a list of
people with the same surname, just enter the surname and the comma, e.g.
"hazlett," (but not with the quotes). In either case it takes you into
the index, and lists a bunch of people starting at the point you
requested. If you see a name that's of interest, click on that link and
you will see a tree showing them, their spouse(s), children, and parents.
Once you have the tree you can work your way up or down by clicking on
the box containing an individual's name, or on the arrows beside the
name that take you someone's parents (in the case of an arrow on the
right side) or to their spouse (in the case of an arrow on the left side).
At the top and bottom of the tree, you will see a menu list that for
most people will show "Index", "Descendency", "Register",
"Pedigree",
"Ahnentafel", and "Add Post-em" Play with any of them EXCEPT the ADD
POST-EM option, and see what they do.
A lot of the people posting their trees consider it rude to add Post-ems
to their tree without having contacted them with the data or question
first, and let them correct or add the information themselves. If you
try to contact them and the message bounces because the e-mail address
shown is old, or if you haven't received a reply after a couple of
weeks, then it's considered acceptable to add a Post-em.
As you look at various trees on RootsWeb's WorldConnect pages (best done
from
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi) you will notice
that some have been updated recently; some have not been updated for
many years and the person who uploaded them may have died, become
infirm, or lost interest -- but not necessarily. I've written to folks
who have not updated trees in the last 5 years and gotten replies. They
hadn't lost interest, they had posted all the data they knew, and had
nothing more to add.
Trees sent to RootsWeb's WorldConnect pages (which are free to access)
also show up on
Ancestry.com, but not necessarily vice versa -- the
later requires a subscription to access.
Have fun bouncing around our family tree. Feel free to ask questions
(especially about those shown as 'Living') and please let me know of
additions or corrections.
