How about sharing with us a childhood memory of Thanksgiving?
Ok, I'll give it a try....
When I was little, we always had a traditional Thanksgiving celebration. We
would go to my grandparents' house in Knoxville and have the huge Thanksgiving
dinner. Aunts, uncles & cousins would be there & each family would bring a
dish or two to pass. We'd eat until we were really in pain. Often I'd have to
sit at the "little kids" table for the actual dinner, but always liked finding a
seat at the "big" table afterward, so I could listen to the adults talk
politics or reminisce.
Then us kids would go out & play on the railroad tracks (probably not
considered safe nowadays, but fun then, as we'd see who could walk the farthest
without falling off the track!) Later, if we were lucky, we'd get to drink some
tea, and old Mrs. Davis (my great aunt's mother-in-law) would read us our
fortunes in the tea leaves left at the bottoms of our cups. As she died at the age
of 94 when I was 10 yrs old, I guess she was really old.
The trip to home to Elmira on Thanksgiving evening always seemed fast, as I
would usually be sound asleep by the time we got out of the driveway.....
Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving this year and that you all have some
nice memories of holidays past!
