Hi Marylyn -
There's an attorney named Joseph C Buck at Buck, Danaher, Ryan & McGlenn in
Elmira. Is that the one you're looking for, or maybe a son? The phone # is
607-734-8161.

As many of you know, three daughters of our pioneer ancestors, Joseph
nd Mary Harper Campbell, married Hazletts. And about half of the
ttendees at our Campbell Reunions are Hazlett descendants.
But they, and most of the Hazletts in our family tree, are descendants
f two Hazlett brothers ---- Sam (who married Sarah/"Sally" Campbell),
nd John (who married Jane Campbell). Sam, John Sally, and Jane came to
elson from Strudsburg in the big migration of most of the family
embers and their livestock in 1810.
But we haven't know anywhere near as much about Sally and Jane's sister,
ary Campbell, born 1779 in Scotland or N. Ireland, died 1824 in
ancaster Co., PA. Making things confusing, her husband was a John
azlett. This John Hazlett was born in County Down, N. Ireland in 1783,
nd he died 1869, in Allegheny City --- which is now Pittsburgh's North
ide.
You probably know that Mary CAMPBELL Hazlett, and her brother, John
ampbell (1781 - 1886), never came to Nelson. Joseph and Mary Harper
ampbell, and their younger children, apparently came to the US (landing
n Perth Amboy, NJ) in the fall of 1810. But Sally, John, and Mary came
uch earlier. We don't know when, but Sally's first time, Archibald
azlett, was born in Lancaster Co. in 1803.
Our family historian, Jane CAMPBEL Tubbs (1834 - 1916), researched John
ampbell's and Mary CAMPBELL Hazlett's descendants. She found a lot
bout John's descendants, and we have added many more to our family tree
nd made contact with several of them. But she didn't find out much
bout Mary's descendants, and we haven't found much more since Jane's
esearches , which were done 110 years ago.
But there's been a breakthrough. I found three family trees online that
ere made by descendants of Mary CAMPBELL Hazlett and contained lots of
ames. And with those as a starting point, I'm finding more family
embers in old census records. So, as the subject line of this message
old you, I've added 155 more people to the Mary CAMPBELL Hazlett branch
f our tree. That number includes parents of some of those who married
ary's descendants.
I expect to find lots more in the next week or so. But I just uploaded
he revised tree to RootsWeb's WorldConnect pages. It's at
ttp://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=capane&I11.x=0&...
For some reason, many people have trouble remembering how to find it.
he easy way is to save it as a "bookmark", sometimes called
"favorite",
n your browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Chrome, Safari, or
OL).
But the good news is that as soon as RootsWeb grants permission to host
website for us on their free pages, there's a link on our home page
hat takes you to the tree. I've tested it and it works. I'll let you
now when our "Campbells, Hazletts, Luggs, Blackwells & Associated
amilies of Nelson, PA" is live. Only a few web pages will be live at
irst, but the site will steadily grow.
But right now you have another 155 people you can look at in our tree
and that may grow every day this week as research continues).
Legal privacy requirements for publishing publicly accessible trees to
he web necessitate filters that remove data about living people except
or their surname and sex. So you will see many in the tree as just
Living Stark", "Living Skragg", etc. But for the deceased all the data
s shown. Have fun.
Finding time to do all this is going to be a challenge. We will be
oving from the middle of Allentown, PA to a suburb about 12 miles to
he West. After we get moved, we will do some fix-up or our present home
nd then rent it out. We haven't made an offer yet, but we've found
everal great bargains within our budget and expect to make a successful
ffer this week. Closings take a while these days. So, all that will
onsume a lot of my time for the next several months. Because it's not
ar, we'll probably move the small stuff by car, in more trips than I
ant to think about. I will miss having stores, barber, library,
estaurants, etc. within walking distance, and good bus service (free to
eniors). But I won't miss the noise. litter & vandalism.
At least now that we have G-mail addresses, those will stay the same,
ven if we change ISPs. And our phone numbers should stay the same. So,
ostal address is the only contact info that will change. Fortunately my
ealth is better and I've resumed taking daily walks and will physically
e up to helping with the move. But my computer may get lonely some days.
e lucked out with last weekend's snow storm. Only a few flickers of our
ights and one tree limb broken. But others lost lots of trees and some
n this area still haven't had power restored. As you may have read, the
rees still had their leaves, so the weight of the very wet snow (about
" here, 16" in some areas) was too much for them. The weight of ice
ook down some power lines. and falling limbs or falling trees took out
ots more. We've had power company crews from all over working in this
rea, even some from Canada.
We now have 3 floors plus basement and garage full of 25+ years of
lutter, and will move to a much smaller (and single floor) place.
aring down will be a lot of work and tough decisions about what to keep
nd what to dispose of. Many of you may have already gone through that
rocess.
I do plan on converting one bedroom in the new place to be an
ffice/genealogy workroom. Bill Hassoldt plans to give me lots of Lois'
aterial in addition to the many boxes and binders full I already have,
o lots of shelf space will be needed. As I get it processed, it will go
n our web sites and I'll send the original hard copy to county
istorical societies. Our Campbell clan has good longevity genes, so
opefully I'll get to finish it. If not, one of you may need to pick up
he torch. But for now, some of you might like to start helping with the
eb site by typing, scanning, proof reading, etc. Web know-how isn't
equired to help. It just occurred to me that it would be good to put a
Volunteer" link on the web site's menu. A collaborative site, with
redit given to volunteers. appeals to me more that some of the ego trip
enealogy sites you may be familiar with.
I do hope the web site will be a legacy. But as a way of honoring,
reserving, and continuing the work of Jane Campbell Tubbs, Phebe
ampbell Hoyt, Will Selph, Jr., Mabel Shipman Shaw, Joe and Marjorie
uck, Thelma Ellison Huyett, Lois Church Hassoldt, Ann Pearson Lugg,
oger Hughey, Tom Zurflieh, John Dunham and so many others. I think a
eb site may be a good way for the later generation to participate and
arry on the legacy. I'm sure that "off the top of my head" list omits
he names of many that have made valuable contributions --- my apologies
or "senior moment" oversights.
