What are people saying?
Let's hope these "shoes" don't fit any of us. And special thanks to
those of
you who have been so helpful.
Among mail list "groupies" (I've heard of people being on a hundred mail
lists),
people who subscribe to a list for a long time, but never participate are called
"lurkers."
A recent RootsWeb review article was about "Tree Hoarders" - folks who collect
data, but never share.
Below is a follow-up to that in the latest issue:
"Leeches Threaten Trees
I've had plenty of help in my genealogy research both from old and newfound
relatives, new Internet friends, and online sources, including personal genealogies
in which my ancestors are mentioned, so I am usually willing to freely share
my work with others. However, in my case, there are some family members who
can only be described as leeches -- they take everything you send, often without
a simple "thank-you," and they never send anything to you in return, even
though
they have things they know you want. Consider it petty of me if you want to,
but I no longer provide these leeches with copies of my work.
