Last month, we had some discussion about her sister, Mrs. E.C. Thomas.
While looking for something else, I just stumbled across Wellsboro
Agitator of Oct 5, 1921, p8m which has:
"Death of Mrs. Mahala Thomas.
The Angel of' Death has again visited our community, removing from us
one who was widely known and highly respected. Mrs. Mahala Thomas was
born at Painted Post, N. Y., April 8, 1832, the daughter of Daniel and
Catherine Buckbee, and granddaughter of Samuel and Hannah Buckbee, who
came to this country from Bedford, England.
She was married, April 17, 1861, to Ezekiel Thomas, and to them two sons
were born—Freddie, who died in early childhood, and Charles, with whom
she lived; her husband died several years ago. '
Wednesday morning, Sept. 28, she answered the final summons to merit the
greeting into the unknown, "Well done, good and faithful servant, enter
thou into the joys of thy Lord."
She had been a faithful member of the M. E. church of Farmington since
its dedication, nearly fifty years ago, and as long as her health
permitted, it was a most unusual thing for Aunt Hala to be absent from
divine service. She was also a charter member of Farmmgton Hill Grange,
No. 841
Besides the son, C. E. Thomas with whom she resided, and who with his
wife tenderly cared for their aged mother, she is survived by one
grandson, Jesse Thomas. Her only granddaughter, Clara Thomas, died six
days befor her grandmother. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. C. A.
Hazlett, of Nelson, and two brothers, George, of Elkland, and Charles
Buckbee, of Geneva.
Funeral services were held at her late home Oct. 1, Rev. C. W. Blount,
pastor of the M. E. Church in Tioga officiating; burial in Farmington
Hill cemetery."
