Just to keep things confusing -- Mary Ann Blackwell's husband, Robert
Steele, was the son of a Robert Steele and the father of a Robert Steele.
From the Wellsboro Agitator of Wed., Jan 1, 1896, p3:
" Death of Mrs. Robert Steele
Mary Ann, widow of the late Robert Steele of Delmar, died of cancer
at the home of her son, Robert Steele, in Delmar last Thursday. Mrs.
Steele was the daughter of William and Sarah Morrison Blackwell, and she
was born in Shippen township, June 21, 1816.
At the age of 19 she was united in marriage with Robert Steele, with
whom she lived forty-nine years. He died 11 years ago. When Mr. and
Mrs. Steele were married, they made their wedding tour from Morris to
Delmar, with all their personal effects on horseback and both on one
horse. They went to keeping house in a little house Mr. Steele
provided. By hard work and economy they were greatly prospered, and
their home became the center of interest for a large number of friends.
Eight of the ten children born to them --- five boys and three girls --
are still living. One died in infancy, and one, William, lost his life
in the war of the Rebellion.
Mrs. Steele was converted to the Christian faith early in life, and
she always remained a devoted member of the Baptist Church. Her funeral
was held last Saturday, being conducted by Rev. James A. Boyce at the
home of her son, Robert. The service was wholly arranged for by Mrs.
Steele some weeks before she died. It was attended by a large concourse
of relatives and friends. She was laid to rest in Wellsboro Cemetery."
