Hi Bill,
The word is patience.............I knew you'd get back to Harry Kemp's
letter. As with all of us, "life" does on occasion get in the way of our
genealogical pursuits. I really do look forward to the next edition--and I
wait, patiently........ Thanks for sharing your vast knowledge of our
Campbell family with all of us.

Subject: [Ca-Pa-Ne] Steeles & Blackwells
I put commenting Harry Kemp's letter to the editor on hold, while
being
tied up with electioneering, church and community responsibilities, and
some health issues -- all of which are either behind us or progressing
satisfactorily.
More important, I wanted to redo my Steele research, the results of
which are in my out-of-order laptop, and not on my desktop. Before
"correcting" Harry, I wanted to be sure I knew what I was talking
about. So, I've now started tackling the Steele research and before
long expect to get back to continuing with, and commenting on Harry's
version of family history.
No one complained about the delay, so our subscribers are all either
very understanding, very polite, or uninterested. The tree of our
family history published on the Internet does not at present contain any
STEELEs. One reason for that is that there were several Mary Ann
BLACKWELLs, and I wanted to be certain I connected the correct one with
the Steeles. The right Mary Ann is in the tree, but with the wrong
dates. Those will be corrected in the next update. And the relevant
Steeles added.
Presently that tree has 6,043 individuals and 2,792 marriages. The goal
is not quantity. Yes, I would like to see all Joseph and Mary Harper
Campbell descendants included in the published tree (even though many
would appear with their first name changed to 'Living'). Plus a good
representation of the allied families who played important roles in our
Campbell Reunions. But most of my current efforts are directed at
quality. Showing more sources. Making the entries more complete. E.g.
many records now contain birth and death years from tombstones. I've
been replacing the year data with full dates.
Speaking of 'steel' (almost), Allentown is getting an AAA minor league
baseball team in 2008. It will be at the top of the Phillies' farm team
structure. The owners conducted a naming contest where fans submitted
entries. As many of you may know, the Lehigh Valley was an early site
of iron production (around Easton, PA) and later the valley became the
home of Bethlehem Steel. Whether you are making iron or steel, the
first thing after smelting the iron ore, is to make pig iron. They pour
the molten iron into forms to become iron ingots, or "pigs". Thus the
rational behind the winning entry in the naming contest -- 'The Iron
Pigs'.
It could have been worse -- one of the other finalist names was 'The
Woodchucks'. Now that the choice has been made, I suspect it will not
be long before someone starts writing about "steeling" bases -- if they
haven't already.
