Thanks Marylyn for the kind words.
I don't mean to embarrass you, but other readers may be interested in
why you saw PA's Wyoming Valley (the Wilkes-Barre area) listed as being
in CT.
Most people these days haven't heard of the PA-CT conflict over that
area. One of the citations below calls it a "war that time forgot.
Connecticut claimed that its royal charter gave them all the land to
their west, except for the comparatively narrow strip that is part of
New York State. And of course, the Penn family believed that their royal
charter gave them pretty much what's now present day PA. Although the
location of border between PA's northern tier and NYS' southern tier of
counties was also in dispute.
The Susquehanna Company was formed in Hartford, began selling land in
the Wyoming Valley, built two forts, and settled the area. Then
Philadelphia land agents began selling the same parcels. So, when
Pennsylvanians came north to their new purchases --- or when
Connecticutters came west to their new purchases --- and found someone
else on "their" land with a deed from the other state, conflict was
inevitable. The result was two "Pennamite Wars"

Many of the CT settlers of the Wyoming Valley ended up relocating to
PA's Tioga County, including most of Tioga Co's Hoyts (but not mine).

Hi Bill, and all........You know. I'd post

I had anything to add.....but I have erred in the past with an accidental
personal note misaddressed to the group!!! So i must be more careful, but
anyway, an "hello" to all Campbell Cousins with extreme gratitude to Bill
for his hard work that has allowed us to get to know each other a little, and
from whence we all have descended, (I now join the ranks of those
"remorsefully listed" on the 1940 census for all to know the truth about
age--even
tho I still think my mom lied to the censustakers, et al!!!!
In doing more research for my DAR heritage, I am including one great CC Lt
Col George Dorrance, whose life was terminated at that horrible tragedy
called the "Wyoming Massacre" (which i found misaddressed as having happened
in CT??? but WE know better......Samuel Tubbs and others are also
well-documented as having served...For me, that means that our ancestral families
endured much more than we what we tend to remember about their farming,
milling, family procreation, church- building and attendance thereof. I think
often of those times as I am paying the electric bills for residences and/or
pumping gas for my vehicles.
This is a great weekend to remember them and all the others, especially our
Patriots (old and new) who have stood their ground in defense of our
country and its goals...GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!!

Thanks, Bill, for the email. I haven't had a chance to check out the 1940
census yet. I think this listserv still serves a good purpose! Especially
since probably not everyone is on Facebook. Thanks again for all of your
hard work!!

Subject: [Ca-Pa-Ne] 1940 Census
It's been awhile since anyone has posted to this list. Our Facebook
roup may have siphoned off many your comments. That venue seems to be
opular for nostalgia about childhood memories.
Perhaps this mail list still has a role for those with a more serious
nterest in family history and genealogy --- perhaps it no longer has a
ole. But I thought I'd post some comments on the 1940 census.
As some of you probably have been doing, I've been looking at the1940
ensus images on
ancestry.com.
I had eagerly been looking forward to the release of the 1940 census,
ut was disappointed.
So far, I've only processed the Tioga Co., PA censuses for Nelson,
armington, Osceola and Lawrence Townships, Lawrenceville, and 9 of
lkland Boro's 64 pages.
My first disappointment was that much of the Nelson and Osceola Twp.
mages were illegible. Mostly from fading, but in some cases, blurry images.
And I was disappointed to learn --- altho I probably should have
ealized it --- that it will be months, or perhaps years, before it's
ll indexed and searchable.
I have found a few descendants I hadn't know existed. Fewer than I
xpected. That's due to all the help many of you have given by providing
nformation. Congratulations to you on a job well done!
It has provided lots of missing birth states, some unknown middle
nitials, a few missing 1st names of spouses, and quite a few missing ages.
Beware all of you born between 1930 and 1940, Your Secret is Out! But
he good news for those of you who would rather the world not know your
ge, RootsWeb's privacy filters only allow your birth surname and your
ex to be published in our tree.
BTW, our tree now contains 14,709 individuals and 6, 395 marriages (or
ouplings). I upload the tree several times per month. As always, you
an view and search it at
ttp://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=capane&I11.x=32&...
If you haven't already done so, you may want to "bookmark" that URL for
asily getting to it in the future. Visit it if you have questions about
eceased Campbell-Hazlett-Lugg-Blackwell descendants.
If you have questions on the living, or on associated families that may
e in my Owlett tree or Miscellaneous tree, you can e-mail me.
The tree, and our web site,
ttp://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~capane/ each have
inks to the other so you only need to bookmark one of them. I add new
ages to the web site each week.
And the web site has a link to face Facebook Group's page. And info on
ur July 28th reunion.
See you there.
