Dear Cousins,
I'm sure you will be attending the last Campbell reunion this week so I
am asking you to give my greetings and best wishes to everyone. I regret
that Dad and I are unable to attend, but we do not return to Syracuse until
the 25th and it's too far to go from here. I always remember with pleasure
the reunions I have attended in other years. Of course there are many faces
which I knew so well that I would miss but I would still find those I know.
Father is really very well, lives a very regular and contented life
bestowing on all of us the benediction of a life beautifully adjusted to
things as they come. He is a grand example of growing old gracefully and we
are very happy to have him with us. He spent three months in Florida again
last winter. He was back for his 58th commencement at Mansfield & visited in
Knoxville during June & part of July. He will visit my brother Wilson in
Albany on the return trip. Wilson has a son Jerry eight and the darling
daughter Linda Ann (Ann for grandma Lugg (Ann Seeley Lugg) who is just past
two.
Our children Ellison twenty one and Janice ready nearly nineteen are
just about grown up and on their own. Ellison is with the Army Air Corps at
Sheppard Field Texas learning airplane mechanics and Janice will be a
sophomore at Syracuse University this fall. Ellison by the way looks a great
deal like my mother.
Dwight has been studying at the Harvard Theological Library this month &
preaching here in Milton for a friend who is on vacation.
You may share this information with any interested and remember us to
all. Affectionately, Janice Lugg Beck.
[Notes: This âregretsâ note to the final Campbell Reunion of the original
series (they were revived in 2000), was written by Mildred Jean LUGG Beck
(1889 â 1981), dau. of Minnie Jean Wilson and Charles H. Lugg (1860 â 1955);
son of Ann Kezia Seely & Anthony Wayne Lugg (1825 â 1897); son of Mary Ann
Chandler & Charles Byron Lugg (1791 â 1874); son of Ann Ely & Robert Lugg
(1750 â 1831). Her husband was Rev, Dwight Marion Beck (1893 â 1993).
Daughter Janice BECK Barton died in 2007. Son Ellison may be still living.
Janice' brother was George Wilson Lugg (1902 â 1988). Nephew Jerry and niece
Linda Ann are presumably still living I have the original handwritten note .
