Most subscribers to this list are aware that Tioga Co., PA, had several
Van Dusen families settle there, with roots in Otsego Co. and Schoharie
Co., NY. One line intermarried with our Campbells; another with the
Owletts (and subsequently with Hazletts).
I've never tried to trace the various Van Dusen lines back to see how,
or if, they connect -- I've always had things to do that seemed more
pressing or more relevant to my main genealogy interests.
I was antrigued in researching my Delaware Co., NY roots at how many Van
Dusens and Van Deusens I saw in cemeteries in the Towns of Davenport ant
Harpersfield. Internet research on my Burget ancestors from there shows
-- if it's correct -- that I had a 9th great-grandfather, Jans Frans Van
Hoesen, b. abt 1608 in Husum, Schleswig-Holsten, Denmark -- and that
many of his descendants spell their name as Van Dusen.
So, I may be a Van Dusen too. More research will be needed to check out
that claim.
Similarly, I've know for quite a while that I had a Royce ancestor. But
it was only recently that I discovered that many of those descencants
spell their names Rice. There may be lots more connections among us
than I had supposed.
