I just discovered today data on the descendants of Austin Jones Snavely.
I've been looking for them for years, and they were right under my nose. He
has a son and a daughter. Which lead me to her recent obituary in the
Binghamton Press and Sun-Bulletin of Apr. 28, 2011.
His daughter, Evelyn J. SNAVELY Hamilton, died at her home in Conklin,
Broome Co., NY, where she had taught before retiring. I used to live in
Conklin and started school there. I don't know when Evelyn came to Conklin
from PA, but I'm back to Binghamton several times a year and could easily
have met her --- if I'd only known. She died Apr 26, 2011 and was born about
1942 in NYC. She graduated from high school in Kingston, Luzerne Co., PA and
Miseracordia U. in Dallas, Luzerne Co., PA.
She has a living brother, whom I hope to be able to contact from the data in
the obit. It makes no mention of her having any children.
Evelyn's parents,were Regina Burns (1906 - 1970) and Austin Jones Snavely
(1904 - 1949).
Campbell Cousin Mary Evelyn BOSARD Snavely (1873 - 1933) referred to Austin
as her son, but per a 1900 census of Washington, DC, he appears to have been
her step-son. Mary married Albert B. Snavely at least 4 years after Austin
was born. The 1900 census shows Austin's mother to have been named Evelyn,
and her parents were born in England. Mary's parents were born in PA & NY.
Mary Bosard was a dau. of Jennie Crane (1852 - 1925) and John Mahlon Bosard
(1889), son of Malchia D. Bosard (1822 - 1864) and Eleanor Campbell (1828 -
1910), dau. of Ann Clinch (1804 - 1872) and Joseph Campbell (1793 - 1864),
son of Mary Harper (1740 - 1844) and Joseph Campbell (1748 - 1822).
As the Pennsylvania Dutch supposedly say, "We grow too soon old, and too
late smart." Once again, ships passed in the night.
Belated condolences to Evely Snavely Hamilton's family.
