There are obits that will intrest some of you on the USGenWeb site for
Potter Co., titled
Early Obituaries of Potter County, PA
www.eg.bucknell.edu/~hyde/potter/Obituaries.html
In a quick skimming, I didn't notice any Campbell cousins, but there are
obits of related Hortons. They are pf interest ot anyone who is curious
about the Civil War or education in the 1800s. The obit of Wm. Bingham
may be of historic interest to many, because he owned so much of the
land in PA's northern tier and NY's southern tier, on which our
ancestors settled. If those of you reading these obits more carefully,
notice names of interest to the members of this list, please post a
messege to the list, letting us know.
One of our members is a desc. of Kate Ardell CAMPBELL (1853 - 1943) and
husband Elisha Shore HORTON (1842 - 1932). And several are desc. of
Kate's brother, Thomas Clinch CAMPBELL. There are obits of Elisha's
brothers, Alonzo B. HORTON and Elias HORTON, JR. and the latter's wife,
Ada Walker. Ada's obit has the name of her husband wrong, but it is
fortunately correct in his obit.
Elias, Jr. and Ada WALKER's bios may be of interest to many of you
because of their discussion of the academy at Academy Corners, PA.
It's is also unusual that both the brothers enlisted in the Civil War as
privates and ended as Captains. The account of wounded Alonzo lying for
two weeks on the battlefield of The Wilderness before being sent to
Confererate Libby Prison is amazing..
