As some of you may have seen, Joyce Tice's Tri-County web site recently
added Chapter 15, "War of the Rebellion", of R. C. Brown & Co.'s 1897
History of Tioga County.
Those connected to, or members of our family are found in many of the
units listed. I will comment on only one (at least for now), Company H,
207th Regiment of the PA Volunteers. It has a higher percentage of
those of interest to us than most companies. Feel free to make
additions or corrections on the below. I put a "CC" in front of those I
recognize as "Campbell Cousins".
2nd Lt. Amansa C. Culver, Jr. (1829 - 1905) was a brother of Content
Culver (1810 - ?). Her dau., Sarah Bottom/Bottum (1832 - 1861) m. CC
Samuel C. Hazlett (1830 - 1861).
2nd Lt. Oliver P. Babcock (1840 - 1922), was a brother of Mary E.
Babcock (1847 - 1883). As I understand it she first married Albert
Redfield, then CC Jud Delos Seely (1851 - 1929).
Sgt. James Van Dusen (1837 - 1865) was a brother of Wm. Van Dusen (1823
- 1892). Wm. was the father of Oscar Adelbert Van Dusen (1849 - 1923).
O. A. 1st married Martha A. Mowrey (1853 - 1873), then CC Ann Tubbs
(1855 - 1930). Martha was a sister of Alfred D. Mowrey (1862 - 1885),
1st husband of CC Grace B. Campbell (1865 - 1947). Martha was also a
1st cousin of Charles W. Mourey/Mowrey (1851 - 1935), husband of CC
Laura J. Bosard (1851 - 1926).
Sgt. Van Dusen was also the brother of Hannah Van Dusen (1815 - 1896).
Her son Grant Seely (1848 - 1922) was the father of Lois Heloise Seely
(1886 - 1963), wife of CC Mahlon P. Crandall (1891 - 1961).
Cpl. Albert D. Kemp (1838 - 1839) was a brother of Pvt. D. C. Kemp - see
below. His sister, Mary Kemp (1834 - 1912) was the 2nd wife of Pvt.
Vernon Green(e) - see below.
Cpl. David Hulslander may be the David Bartlett Hulslander that married
Susie Estella Taylor (1870 - ?). Or perhaps the Corporal was her
father-in-law. Susie's sister, Amelia Bell Taylor (1865 - 1945) m.
Elmer Ellsworth Beard (1863 - 1943). Elmer is not a CC, but is of
interest to some of you.
Pvt. Otis Lincoln Butts (1819 - 1905) was a brother of Percy Butts (1836
- 1909), who was the mother of Angie J. Close (1871 - 1953) (whom I
remember). Angie was a sister-in-law of CC Emily A. SEELY Blanchard
(1880 - 1966). Angie was also the adoptive mother to Vera Close
McCallum Blanchard (1901 - 1997), mother-in-law of CC Elva "Peg" OWLETT
Baker Maines.
Pvt. Louis Levan Beiver (or Lewis Beaver) (1827 - 1885) m. Eliza Lugg
(1828 - 1903), niece of Ann CLINCH Campbell and Mary BLACKWELL Campbell.
Pvt. John Harper Campbell (1836 - 1899) was a CC.
Pvt Vernon Green(e) (1830 - 1903), mentioned above 1st married CC Emily
Campbell (1837 - 1861). Mary Kemp and Vernon were the parents of
Frederick Kemp Green(e) and Anna GREEN Signor, who came to many Campbell
Reunions.
Pvt. Wm. Hoyt (1832 - 1888) m. CC Phebe Campbell (1832 - 1917).
Pvt. Orange G. Johnson (1835 - ?), was the father of Edgar C. Johnson
(1864 - 1917), who m. CC Sarah Adelia Kemp (1864 - 1939). Sarah was a
dau. of Pvt. David Cook Kemp and 1st wife, CC. Harriet Campbell (1832 -
1903).
Pvt. David Cook Kemp (1831 - 1929), we just discussed.
Pvt. Jos. Upham (1842 - 1914) m. Emeretta Van Dusen (1847 - 1914), dau.
of John T. Van Dusen (1817 - 1862), a brother of Lt. James Van Dusen.
There probably are many other connections for Company H that I'm not
aware of.
You might like to try your luck finding the connections for other companies.
