Welcome Bob,
Folks are in the early stages of signing up, so more people you may know, or
that know you may be signing up soon.
Some of the subscribers have never been to Nelson, and some who have were
born after the original town was bulldozed to make the resevoir, so your
memories may be very especially valuable to them.
In the 1930s and 1940s, if it rained, the Campbell reunions were held in the
Odd Fellows Hall, above Swan's store that you mentioned. And many of us
remember "Wad" (I believe his real name was Waldo) well. Barber Burt
Rowley was married to Goldie Hazlett. One of their grand-daughters, Alice,
came to the Campbell Reunion we held last year. Tony Lugg and his sister
Bonnie also came to the reunion. Before being halted in 1943, several of
the later reunions were held on their dad's farm. (My mother taught Tony
and Bonnie's parents in school.)
Many of the older readers will remember Marion and Dorothy Croft. And as
you may know, "Sam" Eggleston's wife was a Campbell descendant.
Thanks for sharing your memories and I hope you will hear from some
acquaintances.

Hello folks,
I am a not from your family line, at least not that I am aware of. I
stumbled onto this list while reading my Genweb newsletter. It piqued my
curiosity because Nelson is where I grew up and spent my formative years. I
was curious to read and see if anyone that I knew was posting. I lived in a
small house that my dad built on the North side of the river across from
George and Phyliss Linder's place. Now you may recognize it as Butch
McDivitt's sporting goods store. It sits almost exactly on the spot where my
house stood. Jack Powers is my dad and he is still kicking although now
resides on Sommers Lane Road down almost to Williamson school. I moved away
from there in the late 60's while the dam project was all just talk. I
seldom
venture home, but Nelson will forever be a fond memory. I remember John Lugg
flying over the Methodist church, where John Amundsen preached, on Sunday.
He
always did barrel rolls and other neat things with the fighter (an F-102 I
think) that he flew. John's been gone for years, but his private Nelson
airshows were instrumental in my later joining the USAF myself and spending
over 20 years in the flying business. I knew his mom and Brother Tony also,
but haven't had contact since years ago when they had the little business in
Lawrenceville. The only Hazlett I can remember was a fellow named "Scoop" I
think. He was older than me and I seem to aquaint my memory of him with a
flashy red car for some reason. I remember Waddy Swan and his store, getting
my haircut for a quarter by Burt Riley, and working for Marion Croft and Sam
Egelston on their farms while growing up. I love my memories of Nelson and
appreciate your allowing me to share them with you. If I can be of any help
in answering questions about the area before the dam went in I would be very
happy to do so. Thank you again for your time.
Best Regards,
Bob Powers
