Welcome!
One of the customs in Scotland was to "spin-off" clans every third
generation or so. Sometimes based on geography, such as Campbell of Cowdor.
Sometimes based on an individual. E. g. the descendants of Arthur Campbell
organized as
the MacArthurs. You probably all know that 'Mac' is "son of".
It's been 9 generations since our Campbell/Hazlett/Lugg/Blackwell ancestors
arrived, so perhaps we have belatedly launch the Campbell of Nelson Clan.
Be that as it may, welcome to you all.
Our intial membership is small (17 subscribers), but of course that we will
grow.
However, the important thing is Quality, not Quantity.
The test of time will be whether this list meets your needs and whether you
have fun.
I've had previous contact with most of you, so I'm confident that everyone
will be well behaved and by your natures, automaticaly treat each other
respectfully -- and as family. Messages about your political or religious
opinions should be sent directly to individuals you know, not to this list.
Let's keep the rules to a minimum, and try to follow the Golden Rule.
So far, we have members of the from the:
Sally Campbell-Sam Hazlett branch:
Joseph Campbell-Ann Clinch branch; and
James Campbell-Mary Blackwell branch.
Unfortunatley, all the cousins from the Jane Campbell-John Hazlett branch
that I have located so far are elderly and do not have computers.
We also have subscribers who are not descendants of Campbells, Hazletts,
Blackwells or Luggs; but who are interested in the genealogy of related
families.
Our initial subscirbers live in FL, MA, MD, NY, PA, WA, and perhaps else.
So we have some geographic as well as geneologic and chronologic diversity.
I have high hopes that this list will facilitate comunication among far
flung family members, help people establish contact with their "roots" and
the underwater Nelson that many have never seen, and help "lost" cousins
find us. Sharing our data and memories can help us all. Additionally, I
hope some of you will become "detectives" and join me in the search for
"lost" cousins.
But ultimately it will be your desires and interests that will determine
what this mail list evolves into.
So for starters, how about some postings about your hopes and desires for
this mail list? (If anyone has an attack of shyness, you can send a message
to me, bill.thompson(a)wtassoc.com.)
So, lets make the most of the opportunity, and enjoy ourselves.
Go to it.
