The Wellsboro Agitator of Nov 6, 1895, p3 has the following article I
found of interest.
"Burglars at Knoxvllle
There have been numerous "burglaries at stations on the line of the
Fall Brook railways recently. It was suspected that a plot had been
laid to rob the Knoxville station last week Monday night, and a watch
was set about the building. Mr. T. C Campbell, the agent, and a party
of his friends discovered two men in the building about 10 __ o'clock
In making the attempt to capture them several shots were fired by the
citizens and the burglars, who were will armed, did considerable
shooting. They were captured but before they reached the lock up, one
of them escaped. The fellow captured gave his name as William Dailey,
of Lawrenceville, and he said he would be nineteen years old next
February, and that he had a wife and two small children. He said the
name of his companion who escaped was Fred Barton, and his home was at
Blackwell's. Daily was taken before Justice Giles Roberts on Tuesday
afternoon when he pleaded guilty to breaking and entering the building
with intent to steal and was committed to the county jail, as he could
furnish no bail."
The Fred Barton referenced in that news article may have been Frederick
Ambrose Barton, of Blackwell, PA and Syracuse, NY, b. Dec 14, 1875, d.
Dec. 12, 1917 (while working as a fireman for a railroad). The latter
Frederick Barton married on Nov. 20, 1897 to Laura Mabel Blackwell, b.
Oct 20, 1879, d. 19xx in Syracuse. Laura was a dau. of Eugene B.
Blackwell (1856 - 1935) & Mary Ann Campbell (1856 - 1926).
Eugene was a son of Enoch Blackwell (1824 - 1904) and 1st wife Mary
Elizabeth Webster (1829 - 1894). Enoch was a son of Sarah Morrison
(1795 - 1881) and William Perrin Blackwell (1790 - 1859). Wm. was a son
of Enoch Blackwell (abt 1764 - 1816) and 1st wife Hannah Perrin (1767 -
?) & a step-son of Sarah LUGG Clinch Blackwell Campbell. As many of you
know, Sarah was a great-grandmother of station agent Thomas Clinch Campbell.
Mary Ann CAMPBELL Blackwell was not one of "our Campbells". She was a
dau. of Jeremiah Campbell (1826 - 1898) of Morris Twp. & Lydia Ann
Keagle (1828/29 - 1905).
Mary Ann's sister, Elizabeth Campbell (1848 - ?) was the 2nd wife of
William Henry Walters (1850 - 1928) who 1st married Clara Ann Blackwell
(1850 - 1898), sister of Eugene Blackwell above.
Mary Ann's brother, James Campbell (1851 - 1937) was the father of
Herman Leslie Campbell (1894 - 1973), who m. Louise M. Blackwell (1897 -
1968). Louise was a dau. of Thomas P. Blackwell (1852 - 1933), who was
a brother of Clara Ann and Eugene.
Diagramming the connections above should keep the readers busy for a while.
The above info will be of special interest to several of our FL cousins
[including Betty, Marylyn & T. C. Campbell desc. Tom], who recently
gathered together and visited a park in St. Pete, named in honor of the
above T. C. Campbell. After his Knoxville station agent days, Tommy and
family moved to St. Pete where he became a major real estate developer.
Some of his descendants subscribe to this mail list and come to our
reunions. I correspond with at least one desc. of Frederick Ambrose
Barton, but I'm not aware of any of Frederick's desc. being subscribers
to this list. Some of our subscribers belong to different Campbell
lines, but I'm not sure if any are desc. of Jeremiah and Lydia Ann
Keagle Campbell. If any are, please let me know.
