I was just reading a strange obit from the Wellsboro Gazette of Aug 19,
1965, p. 8.
Many of our readers belong to the Archibald Hazlett - Cynthia Hammond
line, so they will be interested.
But, shades of "Ripley's Believe it or Not" -- or the tabloids at the
supermarket check-out line -- according to my reading of the obit,
Frances has the distinction of having been born in two different
places. Early on it says she was born in Hornell, NY, which many of you
know is in the NW corner of Steuben Co. Later on, it seems to state
that she was born in East Charleston, PA, which as many of you know is
in central Tioga Co. Unless Scotty beamed her (and her mother) up to
the Enterprise - and back down quickly - during the birthing process,
I'm not sure how that's accomplished. But since I have no experience
as a mother there may be aspects I don't fully understand.
Regardless of where she was born, it was on Dec. 30, 1900; she died July
1965 in a WI auto accident while living in Evansville, WI; and is buried
in Maple Hill Cem. She was a dau. of Charles Redner and Mame Teachman.
On May 11, 1922, in Carlisle, Cumberland Co., PA, Frances m. Charles
Walter Hazlett, Jr. (1900 - 1982). She may have had a prior marriage.
Charles was a son of Fanny Richards (1860/81 - ?) & Charles, Sr. (1854 -
1916), son of Sarah H. Bottom/Bottum (1832 - 1861) & Samuel C. Hazlett
(1830 - 1861), son of Cynthia and Archibald (1803 - 1888), son of
"Sally" Campbell & Sam Hazlett.
Frances and Charles, Jr. had 5 children. Thanks to grandson Alan
Mathison, we have records for most of the descendants in that line.
Because most of them are living, much of the information on their
descendants was not included in the published tree on our family
"Campbells of Nelson, PA & Related Luggs & Blackwells" in RootsWeb's
WorldConnect database CaPaNe.
Anyone have evidence as to which birth place is correct?
