Correction. My mind must still be in a whirlwind. I should have
written 'Phil and Virginia CORNELL Smith.'
Sorry about that. Can I plead jet lag from a car trip?

Mary and I just got back from a tiring, but wonderful whirlwind trip
to
NC, in which we got to see a number of old friends and relatives who
have settled there.
We both visited old coworkers and other friends. Mary got to see her
sister in NC and a 1st cousin in VA. Weather was cooperative and we had
great visibility of the Smokies and the glorious fall colors there and
in S.W. VA.
But best of all, I got to meet two Campbell cousins - after years of
corresponding with them. First, Phil and Virginia Ellison Smith
entertained us at their lovely home. And finally, after many years of
being "ships passing in the night", we got to meet Art and Jean Hazlett
at last. It was a pleasure to meet all four of them. In spite of
having just injured his back, Art and Jean took us to a home of Carl
Sandburg, which we enjoyed very much. We learned a lot about these
cousins and their families.
We (mostly Mary) drove through some beautiful country, but the
conversations and meeting more Campbell Cousins were the highlights.
I hope you will all get to meet Virginia, Phil, Art, and Jean at our
2008 Campbell Reunion.
Another plus was that I didn't have to worry about this mail list.
Cousin Betsy JOHNSON Gorman put on her Assistant Administrator had and
"minded the store" while I was away. Betsy, thanks for filling in.
