Looking at the 1942 draft registrations for Tioga Co., PA (the
"grandfather's draft" or "old men's registration"), I found
the full
name and birth info on Richard Jones..
I first saw his name in a Campbell Cousins Association address list
(that's the Cousins Dinners, not the Reunions), as E. Richard Jones -
and had no idea who he was. Later I found him in a 1938 Wellsboro
Gazette as 'Richard E. Jones'. Later, I saw a 1956 letter his wife,
Ruth CAMPBELL Mitchell Jones sent to Cousin Thelma ELLISON Huyett, in
which Ruth gives his name as 'Richard H. E. Jones.'
I had never found birth info for him.
But today, in looking through those draft registrations, I found him ---
Richard Henry Edward Jones, b. Apr 22, 1887, in Kerry, Montgomery Shire,
N. Wales, and living in Tioga Boro.
Ruth Campbell, as many of you know, was a daughter of Thomas "Tommie or
Tommy" Clinch Campbell (1856 - 1933) and Frances "Frank" Parks (1855 -
1927), who was also a Campbell in her own right.
If it were not for Cousin Thelma's generous sharing of her data, I might
have just skipped right over today's "find" without even noticing it.
Thanks are owed to Thelma, and all of those of you who contribute pieces
to our genealogical, giant "jig saw puzzle."
