It's a work in process, so 'Campbell' has maps on this site, but not
'Hazlett' or 'Harper'. My hunch is that for our particular ancestors,
all lived not too far (maybe a 50 mile radius) from Glasgow before
emigrating -- and NW, W, or SW, rather than East. But we may never know.
Best wishes to Campbell Cousins Correspondence letter writer, Iva Deats
Sayre, who is recovering from a fall. As far as I know, she and Jean
Kimball Black are the only surviving writers of letters published in the
CCC volumes.
Thanks to all who have been sending in data. Our "Campbells of Nelson,
PA & Related Luggs and Blackwells" tree on RootsWeb's WorldConnect web
pages (database CaPaNe) continues to grow. I usually update it about
every other week. A lot of the data I've been collecting is "pruned"
from the tree, per RootsWeb policy, to protect/respect the privacy of
living people. A number of folks have submitted additions and
corrections -- which is great. I'm disappointed that as yet, no
additional Campbell Cousins have discovered us as a result of putting
our "clan" tree on-line, but eventually that will happen. Perhaps some
HAVE discovered us and for one reason or another haven't make contact yet.
We've long known of Campbell Cousin Mary Harriet Kemp (1902 - 1985)
descent from Joseph Campbell (1748 - 1822), Mary Harper (1749 - 1844),
and Sarah Lugg (1771 - 1867) --- and been in touch with some of Mary
Kemp's desc. But I just found out that Mary Kemp's husband, Emerson
Campbell Rice (1904 - 1980) -- [who's middle name is from a different
Campbell line that connects back to Broome Co., NY] -- is related to
some of "our" Campbells also. Emerson's father, Hugh Otis Rice (1877 -
1949), apparently was a 6th cousin of Joseph DeForest Hoyt (1860 -
1903), one of "our Campbell Cousins". At the point of connection the
name seems to have been spelled 'Royce', not 'Rice'. As many of you
know, the farther back in time you go, the more relaxed they seem to be
about spelling. Maybe if I'd been a kid back then I could have passed
my spelling tests. {Thank goodness for spell checkers.)
