My relative is Obadiah Alexander CAMPBELL was born 22 / 23 APRIL 1843 in Ringgold,
Jefferson Co., Pennsylvania to John Charles and Elizabeth Rosa (STANTLEY or STANTON)
CAMPBELL. John Charles Campbell's Grandfather was Obadiah Campbell of PA. I do not
know his father's name.
John and Elizabeth Campbell moved to Ohio when Obadiah was about seven years old and
settled in the Mt. Gilead, Crawford Co., Ohio area from about 1850 to 1858.
There were ten children to support on a carpenter's salary: Almira Melissa, Obadiah
Alexander, William, James M., John F., Minnie Deborah, Robert, Charles H., Ellen
Elizabeth, and Judson Westley. In June 1860, the U.S. census lists them as living in
Bucyrus, Ohio. During the Civil War, John C., Obadiah's father moved to Steuben Co.,
Indiana. His mother, Elizabeth Rosa remained in Ohio, living with her children.
Obadiah married Mary Jane MEWHORTER/MCWHORTER, daughter of Issac and Eve (ROBINSON)
MEWHORTER, on 7 DEC 1871 in Marion Co., OH. According to his Civil War record, Obadiah was
about 5'5", and had black hair and blue eyes. In his older years, he grew a long
white beard. Obadiah and Mary Jane lived in Tod township, Crawford Co., OH about 1880 but
later moved two miles East of Bucyrus on Lincoln Highway RR#4 Whetstone twp. in Crawford
Co., Ohio. Obadiah's brother John F. CAMPBELL, also lived with the family in later
years. Obadiah was a farmer, carpenter and Civil War Veteran, 26th Reg., Co. E, Ohio
Volunteer Infantry.
Obadiah A. Campbell died 30 JULY 1918 in Crawford Co., OH. Mary Jane (MEWHORTER) CAMPBELL
died 12 SEPT 1931 in Crawford Co., OH. Both are buried in Oakwood Cemetary. They belonged
to the United Brethren Church.
I am trying to find which of the Obadiah Campbell families that my family belongs to.
thanks, bonnie
