Hi,
I am new to this list and was thrilled to see that a Campbell-Irish list
exists. My second Great Grandmother was Rachel Campbell who was born in
about 1839 in Ballymena (or so she said).
We believed she was first married to a Mr. Meekham since her daughter claims
to have had a half-brother, Johnnie Meekham, who grew up to be a jeweller in
Belfast (he had a polished peach pit hanging in his jewellry shop window!!!)
Rachel Campbell married John Galbraith( a bell hanger).
We found the birth of a son Peter McWilliams in Omagh Tyrone in 1869. (At
the time her husband John Galbraith was assuming the name Matthew McWilliams
for some reason). Then she had a daughter in Cootehill, Cavan in 1874 for
whom there is no birth record! This was my Great grandmother, Annie
Josephine Galbraith.
If anyone has come across Campbells in Ballymena in the early 1800's -
possibly a family with a Margaret Campbell - I would love to hear from you.
My grandmother remembers her "old Aunt Maggie Campbell" who owned a sweetie
shop in Belfast in the early 1900's.
Sorry to bore you with all these little pieces of information but something
just might mean something to someone so I have to give it a shot!
Regards,
Dianne Friden
