Hi all,
I am so glad to see this list with over 40 subbers when it has been less
than a week since it originated. I guess I should introduce myself. I
am the listowner and started the list because I was getting soooo many
CAMPBELL emails (from the Campbell list) and most had nothing to do with
Irish Campbells. I think this might also be a good time for everyone to
tell us about their CAMPBELLs, also.
I would like to add some taglines at the bottom of our posts, so if any
of you have or know of good internet web sites that would be helpful to
us Irish CAMPBELLs, please let me know.
My CAMPBELL ancestor is George Campbell b ca 1850 somewhere in Ireland,
according to census records and his death certificate. According to the
same records, his parents were George Campbell and Mary Todd both born
in Ireland.
My confusion begins with my babybook and stories I heard as a child
growing up. Both have ggrandfather George being from Australia, but
being Irish not Scottish. I have no documentation to prove this. But,
I think that maybe the family emigrated to Australia after he was born
and then he ended up coming to Troy, NY (across the Hudson River from
Albany).
Searching the Griffiths, I find both the CAMPBELL and TODD name heavy in
Co. Tyrone so that would be my first guess as to where they are from.
Any help or connections from others on the list will be gratefully
accepted.
