Hi - nice to 'meet' someone else involved in researching their Campbell
roots. I know my paternal family hailed from Clane, Co. Kildare - and I
have got details of my gt. Grandparents - John Campbell & Eliza Byrne.
J.C. seemed to have a number of brothers and 1 sister but I have not
started investigating them yet. I remember my grandfather telling me
that I was either 6th or 7th generation Irish. I have only seriously
started my research this year and am hopeful of tracing back to Scottish
origins and finding the truth in family legends as to ancestors etc.
Appropos Daramore and Dromora - unless they were small 'townlands' which
would feature on local maps only, no such places are to be found in any
of the Irish guide/reference books in my possession. There are 2
Dromores - one in County Down, N. Ireland and the other in Sligo
(Republic) on the n.w. corner of Ireland.
Do you know that the name means crooked or sulky mouth? Cam = crooked.
Beal = mouth. Similarly Cameron means crooked nose! The Scots say
that the Campbells could never tell a true word, hence the
name!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Phyllis,
Is Daramore and Dromora near each other?
Martha Ann Campbell McMillen married William Rankin, MD, who was a
Freemason
in Belfast. Became a MD/Surgeon and died while serving in the Royal
Navy, found him in the 1880 census.
