Once again I am sending my annual request. If you descended from or know anything about
the following Campbells please contact me, if you have not already done so, since I am
trying to trace all of the descendants of Thomas and Jane Campbell.
Their third son, from whom I descended, was Hugh Argyle Campbell (1744-1810) b. NH, d. NY,
m. Mary Smith (1751-1819)
Their children were:
Jean (or Jane) (1771-1817) Campbell m. Witter Johnson (1751-1819)
Caty Campbell (1774-?) m. James Eliseandra
Elizabeth Campbell (1776-?) unmarried
Margaret D. Campbell (1781-?) m. Joseph Gouldsborough
Hugh Argyle Campbell Jr (1783-1861) m. Margaret Mathers (1785-1848)
Robert S. Campbell (1785-?)
Thomas Burns Campbell (1788-1884) m. Phidelia Terry (1792-1853)
Adam Smith Campbell (1791-1850) m. Mary Adams (1798-1892)
David Campbell (1794-1861) m. 1)?, Jennie Matilda
Benjamin Smith Campbell (1773-1852) b. NH, d. Ohio, m. Sally Keyes (1778-1858)
Their children were:
Archibald Campbell (1795-1874) m. Chloe Baker (1799-1858)
John Keyes Campbell (1797-1873) m. Betsey Sheffield (1822-1893)
Catherine Campbell (1799-?)
Almira Campbell (c. 1808-?)
Barney Campbell (c. 1809-?) m. Nancy (c. 1814-?)
I have considerable info about Hugh and some of his descendants which I could send you if
you find any connection.
The parents of Hugh Argyle Campbell were Thomas Campbell and Jane Davidson. They married
1733 in Billerica, MA, and moved to Londonderry, NH, about 1735. Jane, her siblings, and
her parents emigrated from North Ireland in 1728. Thomas probably also emigrated from
North Ireland but I don't know. He seemed to appear from nowhere, married, moved to
Londonderry and Bedford, NH, had an undetermined number of children, and then vanished.
Thomas and Jane (sometimes written "Jean") had at least three sons: John,
Nathaniel, and Hugh Argyle. Nathaniel was born 1741 in Londonderry, NH, and died 1795.
He married Agnes McCurdy who was born 1744 also in Londonderry.
Nathaniel and Agnes Campbell had the following children:
Jesse Campbell (1764-1785)
Elizabeth Campbell (1766-1818)
James McCurdy Campbell (1768-?)
David Campbell (1770-1819)
Thomas Campbell (1772-1813) m. Mary (1778-?)
Alexander Campbell (1744-?)
John Campbell (1776/7-?)
Abner Lunch Campbell (1779-1800)
Robert Campbell (1782-?)
At the same time (1700s) there was a Thomas Campbell married to Elizabeth, in the
Londonderry-Windham area. I'm interested iin him too because he was probably a cousin
of my Thomas.
We know nothing about the first son, John, of Thomas and Jane Campbell.
Thomas and Jane Campbell probably had a daughter, Mary. We have her descendants and are
trying to verify that she is actually their daughter. Secondary sources say she was but
we'd like better and more proof. Mary Campbell (1738-1828) married John Tufts
(1723-1802) and had the following children:
Jane Tufts (1770-1850) m. Robert Patterson (1771-1847)
William Tufts (1772-1812) m. Pamelia West (1779-1852)
Thomas Tufts (1774-?) m. Dorothy Davidson (1777-1827)
Jonathan Tufts (1776-1806)
Susanna Tufts (1778-?) m. Alexander McMillan
Annis Tufts (1781-1855) m. Richard Smart (1786-1862)
Marry Campbell was born in Mass. or NH and died in Maine. John Tufts was born in Mass.
and died in Maine.
If you have any connection to or info about or interest in any of these persons, then
please contact me at:
