Hello everyone,
I am curious, I have been doing some reading and I read that the Scots and
the Irish intermarried, were known as ScotIrish, predominantly Protestant,
and were literally driven out of Scotland. I read today that there is a town
know as Ulster.(US) Also my maternal grandmothers name is Snead her middle
Initial is O which every one assumes stood for Olivia. Is it possible that
it represented O'Snead? I have so many questions and not any answers. I have
noticed a lot of O's in my research of the Snead name. Any one with any
answers to these questions please reply. I need advice! Also, I might be
able to see a transition from Protestant to Baptist, how would one validate
a Chatholic trasition? Please any advice would be helpful. My thoughts run
rampant. . .
Sincerely
Rhonda
In checking the surname, SNEAD, I found no reference for either SNEAD or
O'SNEAD in MacLysaght's, The Surnames of Ireland. However, in checking
the 1901 classic, A Dictionary of English & Welsch Surnames by
Bardlsley, I found:
Snead, Sneed, Sneyd. 1. Local 'of Sneyd,'a township in the parish of
Burslem, County Stafford. 2. Local 'of Snead," a hamlet in the parish
of Rock, County Worchester.
"transition from Protestant to Baptist..." No transition here, a
Baptist is a Protestant. All Christian religions, other than Roman
Catholic can be considered Protestant religions.
Now, none of your questions, actually related to CAMPBELL. Are you on
the right list? There is Scot-Irish list and probably one for Snead.
