Notes for PATRICK TERRENCE (TORRENCE) CAMPBELL:
When Terrence Campbell died, Patrick Terrence Campbell (also known as Pat Torrence)
was willed the land. He married all his sisters off with dowries and settled at
home. He married a widow who already had a son. Patrick was illiterate and this
widow coaxed him into signing all of the land over to her and then threw him out of
the house. He went to each of this sisters in turn but none of them would take him
in and so he went to the poorhouse in Irvinestown where he died shortly afterwards.
The land was then sold but was still know to the local people as Torrence's Land even
when my mother lived in Trillick almost a hundred years later. It is now owned by
another Campbell family Alice Campbell (nee McLoughlin) owns it in the year 2000.
1901 Ireland census: Irvinestown, Kilskeery, Rosnareen, East Omagh, Kilskeery
