Hello --
I am new to this list and have questions regarding the Loudon / Louden / Loudoun family.
My research on my mother's (Loudon) family has been difficult, though I believe I have
the basics of the Loudon family after they immigrated to America in about 1800 and first
settled in New York. Census and family history records indicate my direct ancestor,
Joseph Loudon was married to Jane McConnelle and was from Londonderry, Ireland -
originally from Scotland. After years of searching, I've not found the connection.
Family tradition holds we are connected to the Castle Loudoun and the Campbell Clan - but,
again, no proof.
However, last week I found a possible clue posted via
ancestry.com that lists Joseph's
direct ancestors - which unfortunately doesn't give an obvious connection to the
Loudoun's or Campbell's of Loudoun Castle. This is the family line posted:
Joseph's parents: John Loudon and Ann - No Surname given
John's parents: John Louden and Jean Campbell
John's parents: Nicholas Loaden (Fleet Prison, England???) and Elizabeth
Morton
Nicholas' parents: James Loaden (of Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland) and Unknown
James parents: James Lothian (Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland) and Margaret Cunningham
I would very much appreciate any suggestions or thoughts for research on this branch of my
family :-)

Sue Graham
